Team Mates who toss others under the bus...

Published

I am so excited that I just started a new job. The office apears nice, I am out doing my own thing and I have noticed..... teamates at this office toss others frequently under the bus.

Meaning, they will speak poorly about someone, I have heard blame be tossed around.. and I have only been there a week and I have already been spoken to twice.... about miniscule issues. Things that I normally would not even bat an eye at...

OMG did I just make the biggest mistake of my life?? What can I do as a nurse to stay clear of the evil teammates I now work with?/:confused:

I thought being thrown under the bus was only a job requirement at the Hospice I work for..wait ..are you the new nurse that's been training with me?:lol2:J/K. Seriously usually the ones throwing others under the bus are always the loudest nurses with the smallest amount of true nursing skills, poorest pt rapport/care, least amount of compassion, and if life is fair the nurses who really matter ie:those that have great skills and compassion for pts, families, and coworkers are truly appreciated by the managers and those bus thrower underers are merely tolerated until the noise stops. Just do what you are supposed to do and you will be fine. They will end up eventually showing their true colors. Chin up and GOOD LUCK.:redpinkhe

You are do right Irish. I must say though that its pretty upsetting to have this happen to me already. Since my post all is quiet. But I am on guard. I have not worked with catty women in so long. I also can't imagine being called into the office to be spoken too about my demeanor! I was told one of my colleagues felt was too dominating with family members. I have NEVER had a complaint about that and this one set me off on a cautious trail down a trail. Can you imagine being on the job 2 days and being told "you act like you know too much, you dominate". WOW.. Ok little tattle tale nurse have your moment in the sun. I will shine with my talents and that will speak for itself.

Well, at least you know what you are dealing with early on. Just get your guard up, keep it up, and carry on with your job. Sounds as if these tattle talers have a firm grip on the brains of management. Always a poor sign, but good that you know this.

If that is the culture of your workplace you give that credit (or blame) to management. Unless management changes it's style and expectations this will be an unsafe place to work. I would look for a better hospice...

Don't throw the towel in yet! I like your optimism about shining later on :) and who knows, YOU could just be what they need there and put the breaks on all the tattle talers? I worked with one who thought she had to bring every thing she did not agree with to the boss, the poor newbies!!!! take it with a grain of salt...

if all fails: i work with the best bunch of hospice nurses there are!!!! boss is boss.... (need i say more?)
