Hello,
I am a floor nurse in a busy hospital with a BSN and am enrolled in a MSN program. I would like to look at a part time teaching job as I would love the opportunity to promote this field I love so much. I saw some positions for CNA clinical instructor and LPN instructor at a Technical school and I was wondering if anyone had any experience teaching in these areas.
I started my career as a CNA and am so thankful to my teachers!
I am looking for any advice,
Thanks!

Hi rn3052,
I started my teaching career in a high school-based CNA program. It was an opportunity to work at the same school my children attended and I was not sure what to expect. The program was intense, but I enjoyed it so much that this led me to pursue higher education. During the summers, I would sub for instructors in the LPN program. I think this as a wonderful opportunity to instill a love for nursing in others.
I suggest you ask whether the program runs year round and what the overall pass rates are for those programs. You want to make sure you are associating yourself with a stable program. Check to see if your state has a mandatory maximum for CNA and LPN clinical groups. Find out what the typical group size is for the school you are interested in. I found that as a clinical instructor in FL, the clinical groups were a max of 15. This was difficult to manage because I had students on multiple units at one time. I had to be creative to supervise and assist with skills.
Hope this helps.
Best of luck!

About 4 years ago I interviewed for an instructor position at a private LVN school. I was offered the job, but I decided not to take it when I found out how much they were charging for tuition. I felt that the students were being taken advantage of and were accruing loans that would take years & years to pay off on an LVN wage. It didn't sit well with me.
