Can you school nurses let me know if you are required to teach CPR/First Aid
in your school. I am responsible for the "First Responders" and I'm okay with that....but teachers only want to take the class so they can get the CEU points which are required by the state that I'm in. What's your protocol at your schools.

Since we work with special needs kids, everyone in our school is responsible for being CPR certified. I took the instructor course this summer, and teach classes for our professional development dept. Since they paid for the class, I am required to do 2 annual certifications.
Thanks mgallant for the reply,
Yes I am responsible for 2 classes per year as well. What do you do when you have people taking the class for the past 20 or so years? Some co-worker nurses do the full 4 hr class (which is a total waste of time to me)
but I show the video, go over skills and then they do a quick demonstration. That's it...after so many years of CPR, they could teach the class....and I do not need to belabor the class with what they already know. Now if it is a new/fairly new person to CPR..then I do the Whole nine yards with them.
What do you do ? Again, thanks
