what do they teach you in ADN program

Published

Could you please let me know what do they teach you in nursing school (community college ADN program) Please elaborate. Someone has told me they do not teach future RN's in Florida how to draw blood. Is that true? Should I take a class at a technical institute to learn this. Thank you.

I really don't think whoever told you that was properly informed. I an ADN, BSN or Diploma program ANYWHERE you are taught the essential skills to be a nurse.. and i'm pretty sure that drawing blood in taught...considering that as a nurse you will be doing this skill quite often:rolleyes: . Please contact the CC that you are interested in and they will help you with your questions.

The pesron who told you this may have a bias against ADN's or may have just been pulling your leg. Any accredited nursing program ADN, BSN or Diploma will teach you all the clincial skills you need to be a good nurse. That includes the fine art of phlebotomy.

Contact the community college you are interested in for more information.

Good fortune on your nursing journey.

I didnt go to nursing school in FL but where I did you were taught how to draw blood and start IV's. As far as actually getting to do either on patients during clinical most students in our program-- this was 8 years ago now-- might have been lucky to do either once or twice, and thats it. Id say if someone is offering you the training for free and you have the time and want to maybe work as a phlebotomist while going to nuring school I would do it.

Rj:rolleyes:
