TCU CRNA

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

TCU says in their website that they encourage students to work for the initial 8months of the program. Is there anyone who is a current student in TCU and can give more info on this? I would like to work if schedule permits. How are the classes like when you start the program? Or it is not a good idea to work?

Congrats on the application! The process is kind of nuts as I'm sure you're seeing, but take it one step at a time. I was not able to officially shadow a CRNA before school (due to the same reason you're having trouble with) but I did get a few chances to visit the OR while nursing...I was asked in my interview for TCU if I got to shadow a CRNA, and I was honest about not 'officially' shadowing due to patient privacy, but did express to the panel that I had worked with lots of CRNAs bringing me patients from the OR or intubations. They seemed to understand honesty at least. :)

Hello! The primary sites have changed (there are many more than 4), and the rotations are kind of flexible as well. It's pretty rare that students spend the entire time at one clinical site and are able to get all of their required cases (Tampa General, actually, is an exception to this...you are able to get all of your cases at TGH if you want to...the clinical coordinator at TCU is fabulous and I know takes students wants into consideration...if for example you want to do a rotation at an all-CRNA practice that may be possible). TCU as far as I know does not do what Wesleyan and other schools do, admitting more students than they can accommodate with clinical. Hope this answers your question!

How many students are doing the Spring and Summer of the 2nd year at Tulsa (Hillcrest or St Francis), Tampa, or in Louisiana? That is one of the reasons that I am looking at TCU. I live in Tulsa and my understanding is that I would just have to spend the Fall of the 1st year in Fort Worth and do distance learning the Spring and Summer of the 2nd year in Tulsa. With Tulsa having two primary sites and a rotation site at St Francis South. I know that I would still possibly travel to other sites if needed.

Is it very competitive to get in TCU. My GPA is 3.8. I plan to do CCRN and GRE soon. Currently working in trauma surg ICU. I will have 2yrs of exp by the time I apply. Are the online classes hard? I heard the first 8months are online. Did u leave Dallas for clinicals. And if u did were u out for long. I have kids so me and my husband wanted to get an idea of the program.

We have 2 in Tulsa now (they moved back after the fall semester and have been taking classes with us since then live online)...I'm not sure if anybody else is going. Nobody chose the distance option from Louisiana (Tampa wasn't an option at the time we got started). It was surprising how many people signed up for the distance option, then only 3 students ended up leaving. And yep you're right that's how it's set up! There's definitely pros & cons to both options though. Yeah, most people rotate, and it's a good thing towards your career to broaden your experience :) Good luck!

Yes, it's very competitive, but it is SO worth it. The first 8 months are online, and they are as hard as you make them. The curriculum is changing next year though so that is going to change. I personally love my clinical site, and the clinical part of the program is 18 months. I have several classmates with kids who have had to make some sacrifices, but it is definitely possible.

What was the average GPA and GRE score for your class? Since it is DNP did u have to write lots of papers. How are the professors? I heard in some schools professors are not that great. How many months are you in the school for classes after 8 months of online classes and do u go the class Mon to Fri? What changes are they bringing for the next year in terms of online classes.Sorry I'm throwing so many questions . I'm just curious:)

No worries, message me if you like!

You'd have to check with TCU's site to see officially what the GPAs & GREs are, but I know the admission standards at TCU are high, and that a lot goes into selecting students so a high GPA and GRE score are pretty much a given. Overall the professors are great and give you everything you need to know to pass the exams and much more, you will get out of the class what you put into it. The DNP part is pretty writing-intensive, but it's a great skill to have and foster. After the online classes, we're on campus (unless you're distance) from August to August...the days of the week depend but not 5 days a week (some people commute from pretty far). I'm not exactly sure what the online class changes will be...wish I could help with that!

Thanks for taking time to reply. I will be in touch. Hope to get some tips from you if I'm called for an interview.

I'm planning on applying to TCU this coming year. Would anybody be willing to give some insight on the clinical experience at some of the different sites? I'm willing to go anywhere, but want a site that provides a lot of experience and minimal ACT practice lol. TCU15SRNA, do most people graduating in your class feel comfortable doing regionals? What all blocks have you been taught? Thanks in advance and congrats on almost being done!!

Thanks for the great information. I was trying to PM you regarding more information about the program but there is a 15 post rule. I will be applying for 2017 admission and am trying to know the in's and outs. If you don't mind emailing me at deeblackness @ hotmail . com (watch the spaces) I would appreciate it.

TCU15SRNA can you email me at [email protected] , I just have a quick question.
