TCC VS. TNCC HELP!!

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

hey,

i was wondering if anyone had any info on the thomas nelson and tidewater community college rn programs?

like for example:

1) does anyone know if either of them have a waiting list and if so... about how long?

2) also is it very hard to get into either of the programs?

my husband is military soo we are not gonna be here for too long and i know both programs are about 5 semesters long, which should give me enough time to finish as long as i get accepted by fall 2009.

any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi, I have no idea about TNCC, but I went to TCC (class of 2007) for my nursing degree.

Right after I graduated, they changed the program to admit a small group every 16 weeks. I am not sure how this affects the wait list, and how they determine who is started when, or even how the application process works.

I do know that they look at what prereqs you have already taken, and their acceptance weighs heavily on your grades in the sciences (A&P 1 and 2, Micro, and also your English grade). You get so many points for an A, B, or C, and your points can determine if you get in or not.

Once you get in it's 5 semesters. It is a hard program, but the instructors are really good, and I felt well prepared for the reality of nursing after graduation.

Most credits transfer if you have to move and go to another program somewhere else.

Mabye some current students could give you feedback on the current wait list time, etc.

Good luck!

Hello! I am currently working on my pre-reqs and TNCC. I went to an orientation for pre-nursing students and was told that Thomas Nelson does not look at your GPA but how many pre-reqs you have finished and your score on the NET test. I was told that it is best to finish all of your nursing pre-reqs before applying because you have a better shot at being accepted. You must earn 24 points on your pre-reqs which is the equivalent of receiving a "C" or better in all of the classes. I don't believe they have a wait list because if you don't get in the first time around you must reapply and retake the NET test. The NET test costs $20. TNCC accepts applications for the Williamsburg Spring semester from Sept 1-Sept 30th and applications for the Hampton Fall Semester Feb. 1-Mar 31st. The Williamsburg campus currently accepts 10 applicants and the Hampton campus accepts 50-60. However, they are revamping the campus in Williamsburg and will be increasing that number to 30 students very soon. Oh, even though they do not look very closely at your GPA you must have a cumulative of at least a 2.5. If you access TNCC website you can take a look at the pre-nursing requirements. Please let me know if you have any questions! Good Luck! :yeah:

Hey thanks soo much for your reply..

but i have one question for you. What campus are u applying too? and how many prereq do u have left to be able to apply?

I know that for both programs you'll need prereqs before applying. If you don't have any prereqs yet, you won't start the nursing program this fall. TCC's application deadline was Dec 15. According to the nursing pamphlet online, they do start a cohort every 16 weeks. If you're enrolled in prereqs now and will have them completed by May, then you can apply for late admission. If you have no college credit, then do everything you have to do (applications, transcripts) and start this summer (TCC has some dynamic classes and you may still be able to enroll in an accelerated class before May). I don't have any info on TNCC.

I hope that helps!!

MCI has an accelerated RN program that's 15 months. The next class starts in May. There are only three prereqs (math, computers, chemistry) and you can enroll in all three before the May class starts. It is more expensive, but you'll graduated and earning money a lot sooner than spending the next 2+ years in school. Just another option. (I swear I don't work for them!!) :)

I'm hoping to apply in Fall of 2010 for the Spring 2011 session. The Williamsburg campus appeals to me because of the smaller class sizes. :D I currently have 5 pre-reqs to finish before I can apply... A&P I & II, Basic Chemistry, Ethics and Microbiology. I hope to finish with my pre-reqs Spring of 2010 and spend that Summer studying for the NET test.

Hello! Im currently a student in TNCC's nursing program in Hampton. The class size in Williamsburg is smaller- and many students commute to the Hampton campus. due to the larger class size(the accept around 60) it is easier to be accepted in case of a waiting list. This past year the Net test was a major factor then the prereqs. So i would definately do my best on the NET. However that may be different now. I would contact the nursing department to ask for this year.

As far as program wise- its a great program. The instructors ae great and always willing to help if you ask for it. Nursing school is a challenge on its own- but it really helps to have support.
