Tcat Ripley lpn

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

I'm trying to get into one of the Tcat lpn programs in the west tn area. I took the compass test about a week ago in Jackson and pass.I have applied to the Ripley school because they are the only school that has a new class starting in January 2016 to my knowledge, and that's close to me. If im not accepted in Tcat Ripley, I do plan on applying for all the other Tcat schools that are with in a 30 mile radius of Jackson. Just hoping and praying that I am accepted!!

Oh, wow. I didn't know that. But mainly because they don't post about upcoming classes on their website. I guess it's because they have so many applicants they don't feel the need to post all that information. I do know that the Memphis location is very competitive because obviously, it's a big city and they have way more applicants but the thing that bugs me about the Memphis TCAT is the location.

I don't feel safe in that area day or night. The crime rate has never been anything to brag about and its only getting worse. And if you watch the news you'll know that we're short on police and what police we do have usually find themselves on the other side of the law. And there are longer wait times when you call 9-1-1 here which is even scarier.

That's why I was all the more happier driving out to Covington and going to school there. Plus, the staff was so nice and they have this attitude like they wanted you to be there and wanted you to succeed. And I'm not just saying that because that's the first school that I've been to where I felt surrounded by such a positive environment.

I had to attend orientation back in August and go through 3-4 hours worth of testing just so I could sign up for the tutoring when I needed help passing my compass math. And I was on the phone with a lady at Covington and I was telling her how nice the man was that facilitated our testing that evening and she told me that he was the mayor of one of the small towns outside of Covington. I must say I was a bit surprised. Maybe it's just that small town feel that made me want to go to the Covington location.

But, then I found out there was a TCAT school in Ripley and that they had a class starting much sooner and it was full-time, so I made the decision that I was willing to drive a little further so I could go ahead and get started.

On one hand I'm not that surprised that they are short on applicants because Ripley is such a small town. Have you driven out to the school yet? I have and it's out in the middle of nowhere. It was almost like a culture shock. I mean Covington's small but Ripley is smaller. But on the other hand, they say 40% of the country cannot find work so I don't understand why more people aren't trying to get into this program.

Nursing is not only a stable industry no matter how bad the economy is but it also pays very well. So I would think they would have a ton of applicants. I mean back in 2008 and 2009 they had over 200 applicants per starting class. What changed?

Yes I know Memphis is a beast of a city. My husband is from there, and I live there while I attended Concorde college, and I'm in no hurry to move back!! I had my kids there, but we decided to move to my hometown which is Jackson about 3 years ago. No I've not visited the Ripley campus yet, buy I've been to Ripley once or twice!! Seems to be a nice lil town!! I'm just very anxious of an acceptance letter. I'm so ready to start.

Did you see the picture of their PN 2016 soon to be graduating class? There's only 14 students. It's possible there could have been a couple more that didn't keep their grades up but they certainly didn't have a full class.

I'm ok with having a smaller class because I'm thinking it will make our days a little shorter and we won't have to worry about staying over our scheduled time (not that I wouldn't be willing to).

But I still find it strange that we haven't at least done orientation. Given the holiday schedule, they're only going to have a month to do orientation, our interview's, pick the class & send out acceptance letters. I'm just hoping they don't push the start date on the classes back. That's the only thing I'm worried about.

Yes I did notice that there is a small previous class!! I'm also worried about the same things. If they have to move the start date back, Im just hoping it will still start the first of the year!!!

Do you know how much the PN program costs? I found a link when I tried to google the tuition & when I added up the costs, it came out to about 9k ($8,923), I don't believe that includes the books either.

That amount seems pretty high compared to the other locations. And I heard the books & supplies can range from $1,500 to 2k. And this link is from 2014.

Fees | Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Ripley

Wait a minute...I found their "consumer information" at the bottom of their PN page & it says...

$3,726 - tuition & fees

$2,607 - books & supplies

$24 - graduation fee

$6,357 - total

I hope this amount is correct. That's much more reasonable.

Yes, those are prices that I found on their web site!! I'm just very anxious to hear something from them!!! It's the middle of November, the deadline for submitting test scores has passed, and this is the last week to get applications in!! Hoping they are sending out letters soon!!

I'm so anxious to hear from them as well. I'm hoping since the nursing packets have to be in by 3p this Friday, they might call us Friday about orientation since they don't seem to have a lot of applicants. I could be wrong but I don't think they'll get flooded with nursing packets on the last day.

Are they supposed to call us in for orientation before they send out letters?

I'm not sure if they call or send letters out!! The less applications the better chance we have of getting in!! I read the letter that was just recently sent out, and it said that people who've not gotten all their paper work in, will be invited to orientation on a stand by bases!! Have you called to make sure they have received all your documents?

I did call the school today and they did receive all my stuff. I'm hoping orientation will be held next week but I'm doubtful because next week is Thanksgiving. So orientation is probably at least 2 weeks away. :(

Well all deadlines have passed, so hopefully we'll hear something soon!!

I'm hoping we'll hear something today. I can't wait any longer!!
