TB skin test accidentally squirted on my eye?

Published

Hi, I'm a new RN and currently training on a hospital that I'm working. I was giving a TB skin test to a patient yesterday and I accidentally squirted some of the substance into my eyes. Looking back, the incident happened due to the needle wasn't fully all the way into the skin/wheal. Would this be a major concern? I didn't report the incident thinking that it was nothing to be concerned about. But today that got me thinking. Has anyone had this experience before?

Did you visit an eye station or rinse it out with some sterile saline. Honestly that is all I would have done but I am certain others will tell you to report it to Employee Health just to be safe and also for the record.
