Hey guys. I just got offered a AWESOME location job that is paying LOW rates these days, but I am more concerned with my brain not able to put the pieces together to figure out what I will be making an hour.
My company is quoting me: $16 taxable pay + $245/week per diem. It is REALLY low. I don't want to do it, except the awesome location. The other problem I have is that those two numbers when factored into a 40/hr work week, come to $22/hr. My recruiter is telling me that I will actually "net" more, up to $27/hr, but that number is NOT making sense.
Anybody have mathematical insight? Why am I being told my take-home will be higher than the actual numbers I'm coming up with. I asked if she was calculating in travel reimbursement/housing/car rental, and she said no. This is basic taxable rate+per diem. She said that my gross is less than my net, and that I need to factor in that some of that money will be tax free. I told her that right now, on paper, all that money was tax-free, but it still wasn't coming up to $27/hr.
Thanks in advance!
I agree it's all about working with someone you can trust and who actually takes the time to explain things to you....some of us need to have it broken down again and again. I always try to do a really high paying position even if it's a crappy location then follow it up with somewhere amazing.....I wanna make money but I also want to enjoy it!!!
I had a horrible experience with them too. They had a housing budget that was so low (for a very expensive, major metropolitan area) that they wanted me to live in a different STATE from where I was working then commute THROUGH the major city to get into the other state...because they were too cheap to provide a reasonable budget (all of the other agencies were offering $300-$650 more PER MONTH) for housing!
I'm glad I didn't take it this time around. A couple weeks ago I read an article about the 10 highest paid states for RN's and HI was on the list. It was pretty shocking that they were willing to pay me almost 50% less than what a permanent RN would make at the same hospital. I will make it HI sometime just for the awesome experience, but definitely must save up for it. :)
Where did you find this list? I was told there was an article on Allnurses.com that had a table that ranked the agencies that offer the best pay/benefits, but I can not find it anywhere. Any idea where I should look?
