What did your instructor's do when students were tardy for clinicals? What does your employer do when nurses are tardy??? In all my 30 years of being in nursing I have never heard of nurses being tardy. We are always so responsible! This is new to me, maybe I have just been lucky all these years.

We didn't dare be late for clinicals. My first year of nursing school I commuted 75 miles one way through Houston traffic. The second year I transferred to my university's Dallas campus and commuted 130+ miles one way through DFW traffic. I was only late to clinicals once (due to being hit from behind by someone more interested in their cell phone than paying attention to traffic).
I don't recall ever being late for shift. I was usually early.
This is actually a pretty amazing feat for me because prior to nursing school, I chronically ran slightly late to everything (including previous jobs) by 1-5 minutes. I was talked to about it by more than one boss and it seemed no matter how hard I tried I could never manage to consistently get to work or anywhere else on time. I always had great reviews with excellents across the board until it came to that one area. The only thing that kept me from being fired was the fact that I was otherwise an excellent employee. I was really concerned about this when I started nursing school so I just decided I would not allow myself to be late any longer. It worked.
(Unfortunately, I've kinda fallen back into old patterns now that I'm no longer working and I tend to run 1-5 minutes late for some things again. I really dislike this about myself!)
