Tallahassee Community College Fall 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Just wanted to start a new thread for the applicants of the fall 14' semester. Hopefully i will find some future applicants on here to go through the process with!

I took my first attempt on the hesi on wed aug 28th scores as followed:

Math: 90

Reading: 90

Grammar: 90

Vocab: 84

I think i will use my second attempt to try to get that Vocab score up a little higher.

My GPA when i apply will be a 3.66

I look forward to meeting other applicants of the Fall 14' semester. Good Luck to everyone!!

Congrats! Yeah, I've also heard that we need to get a copy of the NCLEX-RN book as soon as possible. Does anybody know which one we should get because there is like 15 on the bookstore website. I asked Diane Douglas about what our schedules are going to look like and she said, "Students have class 2-3 days per week, lab/simulation 1 day per week and clinicals 2-3 days per week, depending on the course. Clinicals are scheduled on Thursday and Friday or Saturday and Sunday or Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The clinicals are days and evenings on a rotational basis. There is not currently a set schedule as it varies due to many factors. You will know the first of each semester what your schedule will be. Classes and labs are traditionally during the day hours; some have started as early as 7am and some have ended at 7pm." Hope this helps! And Megan, I couldn't find the facebook group. Maybe you could post a link?

Ok. Let me know if that works. There is just me and another girl in it at the moment but hopefully other people will come across this forum and see the link.

Thank you so much for the info. I looked up the schedule to try and register for the classes, and it said one class starting august-October was Mondays and Tuesdays from 9-11.50. Another one all Mondays 12-2pm, and another one for the second half of the semester Mondays and Tuesdays from 9-11.50. I was not aware that besides clinicals, we also had lab hours. I thought the clinicals were considered the lab hours. I was just confused.

MeganF413 you said your total points was 132/160. did you apply in the spring and fall? also did you retake the hesi to try to get a higher score? please let me know! i have the same score and want to get in for the spring 2015. wanna know what my chances are and see if i should even try to apply.

Well I was an alternate for the spring with a 132. I made it in for fall semester with a 140 because I took my hesi again. If you are planning on retaking the hesi be sure to make it count because you can only take it twice total. I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any more questions! :)

If I'm not mistaken the deadline to apply for the spring is in September, so if you do decide to retake the hesi you have a month to prepare. Even if you don't retake the hesi I would apply anyway!

MeganF413 my problem is that another school I'm applying to requires you to take the science part and that section made my overall score lower. i heard that tcc still counts that score against your overall score. my pre req gpa is only about 3.2. I'm getting very discouraged by seeing everyone else's scores.i have been waiting 1 1/2 years to get into the nursing program in my hometown and still waiting...

:/ I only took the portions required by Tcc, so I don't know if they factor in science for the average. I wouldn't think so because they don't factor in your co reqs grades (micro and humanities) for your applying GPA. That's just my thought process on it tho. Just study like crazy between now and the test and do NOT doubt yourself. I'm a prime example that you can get in with your GPA because mine was a 3.1, and you just need a slightly higher hesi.

TCC only counts the portions of the HESI that you need, so not including the science(s) that you took. The HESI is where you will get the majority of the points you need (because of the bonus points). That said, with your GPA, you want to make sure that you get A's in each section, no exceptions -- just a 90 ea = 142 points for you. Just from talking to other students, the lowest I heard was 140 points, most around 150-154. My friend had a 3.2 GPA but mid to high 80's and he was no where near an alternate. Of course every cycle varies, for example, one semester, a 2.7 was admitted... but call the school and they can give you the stats so you can get a better idea and confirm your HESI question. Don't be discouraged, there are a lot of study guides that you could buy or find free that are very helpful.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to know how the program is there? I had to give up my spot and have not heard good things and wondering if I should reapply at TCC.
