So,I am taking Elementary Algebra (Beginning Algebra)...next is Intermediate Algebra. But I was wondering what everyone elses Algebra classes were like.I have been reading the syllabus for the same Algebra class at another collge and they are allowed to have two 3x5 note cards per test as well as a calculator.I would give my left arm to have these things allowed on tests...what are other students on here allowed?
I am taking College Alegebra this semester and my instructor is so awesome. We have very little homework and we can re-do it until we receive a 100 on it. As for tests, we are allowed to use a graphing calculator and take each test 3 times and the highest of the 3 scores is caluclated. If we are satisfied with our grade at midterm, we can choose to not take the final and not return to the class for the rest of the semester!(I suck at math so, I won't be that lucky) For each test, she gives a study guide that only has the 10 problems that will be on the test, so we always know exactly what to study. Also, our lowest grade is dropped and we have until the end of the semester to finish all homework and take our re-tests if we need to. Good luck!

Just as in any other college course it all depends on your instructor.
I tried to take statistics over a summer session with a professor I'd not heard of. He was a terrible teacher and the session pace was too fast for me. I dropped that class like a hot potato.
This semester I'm taking statistics again. I researched professors on ratemyprofessor before I signed up for the class. I am really pleased with this instructor this semester. She teaches well, and her exams are open book and we can do the calculations on the calculators, no need to memorize formulas. Her philosophy is that since we're not math majors then we just need to understand statistics and pass the class.
Def get a tutor if you're having trouble with algebra, and if you can work on that math anxiety that is a bonus.
Way back when I did college algebra I was an anxious mess when it came to doing the exams. I went and saw the college counsellor who guided me in reducing math anxiety. I passed algebra and went on to trig and got a B. I actually kind of like math classes now.
