Taking the PSB.All Advice is needed & appreciated

Published

Hello Everyone,

Im new to this forum (so Im hoping i am in the right section). First let me start off by I am a fulltime mom of 2 & expecting who has finally completed all core classes (did some retakes to get a better GPA). I have dreams of becoming an RN but LPN is more accommodating to my situation right now since the load was not as heavy. Basically I will be applying for the practical nursing program at my school for fall or spring. Im pretty confident with my GPA (3.7) & all of my core classes are a higher level than what is required. Meaning instead of Math 1010..I have Math 1101 etc. What I am not so confident about is taking the PSB. I've heard that it is pretty basic knowledge material but what exactly does everyone mean by basic?? If you could give me any tips, prep book recommendations , study tips or sites etc. I would greatly appreciate it. I don't have any friends in the field or who have taken the exam so I am hoping you ladies and gentlemen could help me out. Thanks for taking time out to read this. Im not sure If I could help anyone out but I am open for discussion about anything nursing.

I took the PSB a little over a month ago. I was very worried about it so I bought the Peterson's Review book for nursing exams, but honestly I did not end up using it at all. I did great on the test! What helped was that I had taken most all of my prerequisites prior to the PSB - which was really all the preparation I needed. The test covers basic math (percents and fractions), nonverbal, vocabulary, spelling, reading comprehension, biology (anatomy and physiology), basic chemistry, and a vocational adjustment section. Try not to stress out - if you have done well in your prerequisites you should be fine!

I just reread your initial post and saw that you are taking the PSB-LVN - I only took the PSB-RN so I am not sure how they are different, if at all.

One thing I did before testing was call my school and other local schools and ask about a prep class. I did find one but it ended up being cancelled due to all the snow :( Definitely call your advisor and ask about a prep class that might be available to you.

Best of luck! :)

Thank you so much for all of the advice. I will definitely be calling a few of my local schools to see about the prep class. Also will be ordering that book via amazon. I'm glad you did well on your test. Hopefully I do the same.

Take Care.
