Taking Extended Time Off Early in Career

Published

I'm a soon-to-be graduate that will be beginning my first nursing job in June. I'm very excited about starting, but I do have some questions about the future. I'm planning on traveling the world with a group of friends over the course of several months. We haven't decided exactly when we will leave yet, but I should have between 1-1.5 years of nursing experience by this time. Is 1-1.5 years enough experience to have a relatively easy (or at least not impossible) time finding a nursing job when I return? Or am I committing career suicide? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

You'll probably be OK unless you're in a super-tight employer's market. But in that case, you just travel the world some more and find a job in another market.
