Taking chemistry and A&P 1 soon

Published

Hello, I am a student whom changed his major from criminal justice and am soon to start my nursing prerequisites this fall and was wondering about the class break downs for A&P 1 and chemistry and far as what I'd be learning. It's getting frustrating because I really want to do nursing and have for a while but I keep second guessing myself with thoughts like "what if I don't make it" or "I hope I don't fail if I get in." Also I will have to retake my general psychology class and am wondering if that will count against me. Haven't had the time this week to ask the school. Thanks for the help!!!

In Anatomy and Physiology you will learn about the body, in a healthy state. Usually the lecture will consist of physiology and the lab is the anatomy portion. It's hard to say how your school will instruct the course as each one approaches the course differently. In mine A&P I focused heavily on cellular and tissue structure, and towards the end we began going over some of the different systems such as muscular/skeletal and neuro. In lab you will be looking at tissues and other samples and performing some simple experiments, such as diffusion through a semi-permeable membrane.

In General Chemistry I, you will be focusing on inorganic chemistry, there is quite a bit of math involved. I do not know if this is a health careers geared chemistry class or a general one, but I have done both. If you are doing a general chemistry expect to see calculus based math, if it is a health careers chemistry it will mostly be algebraic calculation. You will go over different theories and how they apply in the real world.

Anxiety is a healthy part of doing something new, but you should try to focus your energy on studying and doing well instead of the what if's. Best of luck!

Thank you for the reply. I will try to focus on the now and not to much on the future.

Its okay if you have to retake general psychology just do great the next time. Psychology is alot of things to remember, i had trouble which psych scientists did which and used to get it confused all the time.

Focus on your study and test yourself after each chapter..

Don't be too bummed about general pysch as it will be one of the easiest prerequisite class you could take compared to your core science classes. My #1 rule I had when taking prerequisites was always get the A's in general education classes to buffer my GPA when I took the hard science classes and it has helped me.

So just retak that psych class and for now on shoot for all A's going forward in your gen eds and your butt off in the science classes.
