Taking A&P 1 and 2 in one Summer?

Published

Hello, i am not actually going to be a nurse but, I'm trying to become a physical therapist. I have the option to take both these classes in one semester since it would be best i get them done ASAP (I am an Exercise Science major, and A&P 1 and 2 are prereques for most of the classes i must take). Anyway ill take each one for 5 weeks. And I've heard from some that its a bad idea to do this because it is so hard. Also this fall i would have no choice to take A&P 1 on top of CHEM 2 and a few other classes. That is also going to be a hard class. Has anyone else done this? Would you recommend it?

I haven't done it,but it sounds like a pretty big challenge. I thought A & P was a pretty big challenge taking it in a traditional 2 semester format. I was working and raising my family at the same time, so if you are single, no children and no job maybe it's doable. 2 five week classes? Wow, get ready to eat, drink, and sleep A&P. I am not even sure I would want to do it in an accelerated 8 or 10 week format.

How are your memorization abilities? If you can retain a large amount of both visually observed and textbook facts and then able to grasp and regurgitate the information back, you will do amazingly well. The good news, if all you have is 5 weeks of A & P with no other classes to contend with, kids, work, or other distractions and put in the time to study, you should have no problem if your memory is not that acute.

my memory is pretty good, i think thats why i excelled in bio in HS but struggled in Chem and Physics, since those are more math, and theoretical based. But i must b honest my studying skills are pretty weak I'm going to have to really work on them. Thanks for your input

Yeah its 2 5 week sessions. Thanks for your input!

I took A&P I and II in two five week classes over summer of 2014. I went from being homeschooled and barely knowing how to take exams to that.. I won't lie, it was pretty overwhelming. I think that it kind of depends on your ability to memorize, take exams, and a good support system is helpful! I took a lab too and memorized the muscles in the arm in two days... Personally, I felt that it was worth it but I know that had I taken them during a normal semester, I would have gotten all A's rather than my slightly lower grades that I did get. I know people who take A&P as well as biochem and other classes during a normal semester and they do ok. The one thing I didn't like is that I felt like I learned a lot less taking it so quickly... I was too concerned with just getting through it that I didn't have time to truly absorb it. But it does make your semester a bit easier! Hope this maybe helped a little bit.. :)

I took A&P1 in the summer. It was tough but I actually did better than the traditional semester class. I liked it because you learned the material and then took the test that same week. It was over and done with.

If you choose to take them both, you will have to develop strong study habits. It's all about putting the time and effort in. You can't expect to do well if you don't give it your all. If you're prepared to do that, I think you can do it. Good luck with whatever you decide.
