Hi I will be graduating soon from a ADN program. My question is what do you need to become a home health nurse? Do I need to be experienced or do I need a BSN? I live in California. Thanks in advance

I would say it would take basic good judgement and common sense, maturity, good clinical judgement and good clinical skills based on a minimum of one to two years experience in med surg, confidence in one's ability to work alone under stress, patience to deal with the demands or preferences of the family and/or client, and the ability to get along with your agency staff, along with attention to detail, willingness to work hard and not take the easy way out, sense of humor, and not have an aversion to paperwork as many hh positions abound in paperwork. The above post is well said. The only thing I would add is a vehicle in good repair, good car insurance and a collection of your favorite CDs. A sense of direction or a GPS navigator come in mighty handy too.

You're right. I forgot to mention about the car. When my car died from home health I noticed that it coincided with my inability to have job(s). Now with another car, my hh employers are trying to help me to kill another car!

Car murderers! I do hope my car outlives the life of the loan. Dear Lord, bless my car please. May all its (many) oil changes be fruitful.
