take clinic job or hold out?

Published

I graduated in june, passed my nclex a week ago, and have sent out a ton of applications. The only call back I have gotten is from a clinic job that I didn't mean to apply for. I don't really want to work in a clinic. My passion is ed, but I know I'll need to start at the bottom and work my way up. My question is this:as a new grad, is a clinic job worth it, or should I hold out in the hopes that one of the 6 hospitals in the area will hire me?

Don't hold out! Take it! You dont know how long it will take you as a new grad to get called for a hospital job. Any RN experience is better than none. And working helps you from being depressed from not having a job, and you have a paycheck as opposed to zero income while unemployed. Hospitals are more likely to hire someone working as RN in some capacity than someone sitting home for months with no job at all. My first RN job was in a clinic where i was hired soon after NCLEX and 8 months later I was hired at a hospital.

Take it! Then, if you find you don't like it, keep looking. It's money AND experience and it beats unemployment.
