Switching from VA to DC license

U.S.A. Washington DC

Published

Hi All,

Has anyone switch from VA/MD license recently. I've heard from the nurse recruiter that the process is different now. I went on the DC BON website but I want to make sure I fill out the right forms.

Thanks

I just switched from a NC to DC license....filled out the form...sent in a check....2 pictures....my current NC license....haven't heard anything back yet though...

Where are you trying to work? I'm applying at GWU!

I met with the nurse recruiter today. I found out if you haven't done the criminal background check they wont process the request. That costs $50, the RN by endorsement is $230. Yikes this is a lot more expensive than i anticipated.

Thanks! I called up the board of nursing today and talked with them because I thought my application had been "misplaced". Apparently I needed to still do the $50 criminal background check and fingerprints and the $30 Nursys license verification. I can't believe you have to do that on nursys even though you can print out your license confirmation from your own state board of nursing. Just one more thing to pay I guess!

$230+ 50 + 30= $310 for a license!!!!

I'm heading up this Thursday to interview for a position...so I hope to get the fingerprints done while I'm there.

PS: Make sure you send you application to the 899 N. capitol address....they just moved buildings apparently.....

53127 When are you looking to move? Where do you want to work?

Good luck!!!

I'm actually from Arlington and have been working for INOVA...I got a job at Children's National. I also have to pay $32.50 for a temp license because they only gave me a month notice before the jobs starts and according to the nurse recruiter that process takes about 45 days. So my total cost is $340...not excited about turning over that much money :(

Any good apartments you suggest? Do you live in arlington? I'm relocating from NC. My BF lives in Alexandria, so he's been helpful.

I'm interviewing at GW Hospital....starting FNP in the Fall at GWU. I also have a interview with INOVA Alexandria in April....why did you leave INOVA?

I do live in Arlington, about 10 min outside the city. The apt building I live in is great. W/D in unit, free parking, and no utilities all for a very reasonable price. I cant send private messages yet but I really would like to send you more info about the apt and INOVA off the forum. I only need 5 more post and then I can ;) lol

Oh ok!

You can email me at [email protected] too!

Okay so I just got back from getting fingerprinted for the criminal background check...WHOA what an experience! I think they give the option to get your finger printing done at your local police station. I would highly recommend that option. While I was standing in the long line of disgruntle people at the Metropolitan Police Dept, i wished I chose that option. It was very nerve racking. Anyways, glad that I finally have everything done.

What time did you go? I went early in the morning and there wasn't a line at all! My process was very easy! Sorry you had a bad experience.

It's been a few weeks and I still haven't seen my criminal background check or fingerprints come back ok on the online website....so just FYI it takes awhile....

FYI....they did cash my check though!

Where are you working?

It's been 4 weeks since I did my fingerprints and background check and the DOH still hasn't received my results...geez! Apparently today is a holiday in DC.....so no one is in the office....stinks to find that out after I've been on hold all day! ERGH!

Guess I'll be getting a temp license to make sure I can work!!! What a process!

I know it's been a while but has anyone recently applied for endorsement from VA? My application was submitted over 3 weeks ago and everything has been listed as "complete" since 48 hours after I submitted, except for the state background results. I tried calling the state and emailing the state but to no avail. Why would their check take so long while the FBI results came back in 48 hours?? Any feedback would be great! Thanks in advance :)
