Swedish Nurse Residency Sept 2014

Published

This forum is for the new grad RN Residency Program starting in Sept 2014, at Swedish Medical Center, in Seattle, WA.

toucheturtle I do not remember hearing anything specific... just that they would be sending me out an email. But guess all there is for now is take the NCLEX and wait. Are you from the Seattle area? I also received this reply from someone who went through the Swedish Residency program in the last couple years... "During my residency I was given a schedule of my classes and simulations that was different from week to week. There was also a weekly list of computer modules that you are assigned to do and designated hours that were assigned to prepare for simulations. After that the manager of the department would assign hours on the unit with the days that are left over. The days you work may depend on when your preceptor is working too. During the residency you should not expect to just be working three 12 hour days everything varies. After you are through with the classroom portion and the simulations and just working on the unit you should at that point to work 3 12's if that is the norm for your unit." Thanks for the info.

AnnieMathilda I recieved my offer letter today in email. Yay!

I'm from Seattle - I live over near Children's Hospital. I actually graduated from nursing school (NSCC) last summer and have been working and finishing up my BSN at the UW (I graduate in two weeks). I passed my NCLEX last July. Don't worry, it's pretty easy.

I'm game for whatever the schedule ends up being. I'm just glad to get a residency, so I say "bring it on!" Postpartum is where I've wanted to work ever since I had my clinical rotation at Swedish postpartum. I volunteer with PEPS (Program for Early Parent Support) leading mother/baby groups and I volunteer at Children's Hospital. I love the mother/baby dynamic!

Has anyone heard from other departments by chance?

I applied may 22nd and I have not heard nothing since then. I got an email today again to apply for an ICU position which is also a September cohort position. any ideas folks.

I just heard back yesterday from Ballard Family Childbirth Center after 3 interviews (HR, Nurse Manager, and Peer Interview) and will be starting the residency in September! So excited. Ballard is suppose to be wrapping up their hiring this week I believe.

I am curious if most of you applicants for the Swedish residency program have already graduated from nursing school either in May/June 2013 or December 2013, and already have your RN license? Sounds like most of the applicants who have received interviews for Swedish already have their RN license. I am an applicant for the Sept 2014 cohort, but am still awaiting my ATT to take my NCLEX.

I graduated with my RN in June 2013 and just finished my BSN at the UW today. I passed my NCLEX back in July 2013.

from what I am reading every one that is offered a residency position is a Post partum floor. any one offered a position in medsurge or tele or icus? or a floor other than OB floor? any one called for an interview for any other floor?? just curious.

@Ecstatic2014

I'm going to be on the postpartum floor at first hill Sept 2014. I just graduated with my BSN at the end of may and will be taking my NCLEX in a couple weeks!!

I am in the same boat as you. Just graduated and taking the NCLEX soon!

I have a friend that I graduated with in March that was offered an ICU position for the September residency cohort. He found out towards the middle of May, I believe

Any one who has interview lined up this week????
