Hey! I'm just curious if anyone is already in the Sutter extension program. If so what is a typical week like? I know that it is accelerated, 16 months. Is the actual workload per week more than the average program or is it just accelerated because the breaks in between the sessions are shorter (1 week)? Are the lectures at Sac City and the clinicals at Sutter Hospitals all over the Sac area? I'm a spring '09 hopeful and realized that I've only talked to people that are in Sac City, AR, and Sierra's programs. I would love to hear what the Sutter program is like from someone who is in it. Thanks for any input!
If you are still needing info on the Sutter program, you can PM me. I was previously in it, and also have friends currently in it, and am currently in a PT program!
Is the PT program you're in at Sac City? I know they offered one last year, but this last semester said they cancelled it so I was not able to apply to it this time around. I would take anything that I could get though and would love a chance to apply for it again in the future. I just got my fourth and final letter for this semester, and it was a no. Two years of rejection letters is hard to handle! What's the deal people!?!
I just graduated from the Sac City full time program in may of the this year. I was also the President of the Sac City chapter of the NSNA so I had alot of contact with people from both programs. I can tell you that the Sutter Extended campus use the same curriculum as the full time program including the tests that are administered. In order for the Sutter program to get going so quickly, they entered an agreement to piggyback onto Sac City so that they did not have to get their own approvals of curriculum from the Board of Registry. In fact some of the instructors that teach the full time program also teach at the Sutter program. Many days after taking an exam we had to wait for our results as the Sutter people had not finished the exam yet.
The only negative thing that I have heard about the Sutter program is also the thing that makes it so attractive to others and that is the "accelerated" part. You wont get the breaks that the College get, for example main campus will get a summer break but Sutter works right on through. Now this might sound great for the Sutter program but I can tell you that it was sure nice to have that break...I really felt that after months of the pressure being applied it was nice to get to know my family and friends again during the summer..even take a small vacation out of town.
I currently work at Sutter Memorial and we have students on our floor often, unfortunately I work nights so I don't get to have their services...yes I love students and so do my co-workers!
Good luck and maybe I will see you soon.

The part time program has traditionaly about 1 year space (approximately) between classes starting due to the lack of funding...keep checking back with them as you never know when the they might start one. Please don't give up...it took me 3 tries to get in and even then I was an alternate and got the call 3 weeks before school started.
Good luck!

Hey Chickapea- A student from my Anatomy class got accepted to the Sutter extension program and will be starting this Fall. I'll check in with her to see what she thinks after she has a chance to get going. Another friend of mine graduated with her RN from Delta and had nothing but wonderful things to say about it, but she lived near Elk Grove at the time and the drive was much shorter for her than it would be for me.

Thanks 78RN2B for your input. Yikes! I'm scared... I still hope I get in though. Like you, I feel like I have to take anything that I can get. I'm sorry, you sound like you are having a hard time. I'm sure you'll do great and be done before you know it. You're in!!! I'm usually an A/B student... we'll see what happens if I can ever get in. Which session are you in right now? Good Luck to you!
