Surviving a state inspection survey

Specialties Geriatric

Hi all....

Does anybody else crinch at the thought of an upcoming state inspection? It seems that is all I think about lately.

I recently have been promoted to MDS Coordinator in my facility and am feeling that they are going to attack my MDS's and care plans.

I am trying my best, and I know they WILL find something, but does anybody else dwell on this??

Anybody have any suggestions on how to survive a state survey without having a nervous breakdown? :scrying:

Guess we will have to agree to disagree. Yes, it is my place to report any abuse I witness to a resident, BUT do not feel it is my job to report "abuse" from a surveyor to staff. It would take something really horrific before I would report a surveyor (surveyor to staff conflict), whick I agree is unfortunate and probable wrong but we face these same group of people year after year and they would make life hell for ever after (and it isn't real pleasant now - would hate to see it worse)

I'll just repeat my previous opinion-it should have been reported. At the very least, the entire scenario is inappropriate, and at most, constitutes abuse of power, abuse of staff and above all, resident abuse. Failure to report can have serious repercussions.

OMG Im getting an ulcer reading all this! They just showed AT my facility this morning and Im off for two days but we are expecting them all week. This is my first survey, Im home and still having angina. Mind you Im merely a floor nurse. I cant imagine how the unit managers and up are feeling. The kicker all midnight nurses called off last night so Im sure we were having a non-typical start to the day.....uuuughhh why cant they come in with an "Im here to help you be your best.. " attitude as apposed to "Im gonna get you one way or another" out look.
