The ratio is about 4:1 on the Gen Med floor I work on. We do take acuity in mind and sometimes we only have three patients.

No kinding which state do u work? If it is new york let me know which hospital.

Specializes in ortho/neuro/general surgery.

Supposedly we have a max ratio for med/surg, although not always followed, of not having more than 7 primaries, and the pt's that RN's cover with LPN's don't factor into that. And that most definitely does NOT take acuity into account. There are nights where I can barely keep up with 4-5 patients, and nights when I've had 9 and gotten most everything pertinent done (I think). :uhoh21:
