Surgical Tech and then RN??

Published

I was thinking about getting a degree in Surgical Technology as a stepping stone to an RN. That way I can really get in the action, get to know the "right" people and hopefuly not have to hard of time landing a job once I graduate from nursing school. Do you think thata would be a good idea?;)

canesdukegirl: I will be going into the ADN program here in Las Vegas at the College of Southern Nevada. I have researched and they have a very good NCLEX pass rate. I may go for the RN-BSN program in the future. As far as grants and scholorships got, I have been fortunate in being able to get Pell Grants. I still need to look into scholorships because I just found out that at the college I am going to has this rule:

I must finish my pre-reqs and nursing classes within 90 credit hours or less. Had I taken just the pre-reqs only and then the nursing classes they total 72 credit hours. I have been taking classes like stress managment, colleges success, nutrition, not to the fact that I had to take 3 math classes in order to complete the required math class (math was my worst subject in HS). I also had to retake A&P I. So, I just found out that I will not qualify for pell grants for nursing school and will now have to find a way to pay for it myself since by the time I get into the nursing program I won't have enough of those 90 credit hours to complete the program. That is the most insane rule I have every heard of. Do all schools have this rule? I mean seriously, I have been taking classes to better myself. It's not like I was taking theater or something. So, yea-I will also be looking into scholorships or something. One thing I do know for sure is that I did not come this far to throw it all away. I WILL FINISH!!;)
