Hi everyone,

I am having an observation day tomorrow in surgery (:yeah:sooo excited)and I just found out what is scheduled, so my time to brush up is short....there are several colonoscopy procedures , a hernia repair (dont know what kind) and a mass removal from a hand.

Can anyone share any tips or ideas about what to expect?

Best way to be prepared? what NOT ot do?

Thanks so much in advance :D

That's a very easy rotation. All you will do is stand in a corner and be told to not touch the sterile field. Some surgeons will be happy to teach, and others won't even acknowledge you are there.

If you feel faint, sit on the floor to avoid falling down.

Thanks for directing me to that, I appreciate it...it has tons of great general info...I wish my school would pass out something like that!!!, but still I am kinda also hoping to hear from someone who has encountered the specifc things I will be dealing with tomorrow....

thanks natania..hopefully I wont need to but will defintely be prepared for that possiblity

we were told they like to put the sudents on the spot with questions..things about A&P and off the wall stuff as well~ that is what i dread most of all!

Yea, I suppose the only cool thing about that is the colostomy is considered non sterile, so they usually let you in a bit closer and are a bit more chatty about whats going on. Also there are a ton of different kinds of hernias so thats pretty open as to what it could be. Have fun, and dont worry about anything.

Thanks JHansen...I am just jacked up about this totally off the wall excited~ I am hoping to come away with a great experience and a little more info on a field I find very interesting,peri-operative nursing!!!After my lap chole this spring just before I started nursing school I became rather interested in what exactly that field of nursing has to offer as it might be something I am in a place to be doing!~
