  1. I am just curious, how long are your clinical days? 4 8 or 12? and how many days a week are you doing clinicals? Thanks in advance
  2. Sometimes you have to let your ego/pride get a little bruised there are people out there who will make your life a living hell, just because you tried to prove them wrong. I was like you for a long time, if I was right I wanted the other person to know they were wrong! But a lot of the time its more beneficial to just let it go. However to cover your own butt, make sure you document in someway that were infact not late on this assignment.
  3. We have SNA. Its kind of a club I suppose.
  4. When burping Colostomy bags, Vick's Vapor rub is your friend. Learn to touch people Never turn your back on any patient (learned that one the hard way-Elderly man attacked me, Alzheimers)
  5. Not sure if you want to pursue this in any way, but if you do get failed (i just read this first paragraph btw) the syllabus is considered a legal binding document. A professor can change dates around; students have to be notified and a reason given, but i am sure that moving them forward isn't done that often. But you will also have to consider the repercussions of pursuing it further because some people hold a grudge. Im not sure that helps, but I hope it does.
  6. Diplomas are usually given when you are taught nursing in a working environment, like apprentice to journeyman type of thing. These are really not done anymore. Most of the time you go to school for an Associates of nursing to become an LPN, and the full BSN is a 4 year program. To start out the pay is usually the same, however in the long run the BSN will give you more oportunities.
  7. I wonder how far into BSN clinicals usually start
  8. Just curious at what point did you start clinicals in school?
  9. hmm tough call, if it was me given the information you have provided I would not take this new job because of the commute time and another associated costs.
  10. in your post you said 24 hours, 9am-9pm, did you mean 9am to 9am? Also how did they advertise that kind of pay? ultimately it is up to you, you also have to factor in drive time, and if you get a hotel room you can kiss 50-150 bucks from your pay each week, 200-600 a month. Now if they have certain overtime laws there like in alaska any time worked over 8 in a day is overtime. So if it was 24 hour shift in alaska that would actually be triple time for the last 8 hours. Im just throwing a lot of info at you. Hope it helps
  11. well, good thing for you there are still nursing shortages all over the US, another good thing you said was that you liked rural areas. But my suggestion would be look for a state or city you want to move too, then look at some online job sites, also find a place then look for local hospitals and look at their job site. As for hiring new grads from out of state? Of course they will!
  12. http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Registered_Nurse_(RN)/Hourly_Rate tons of information you can gather from google search. One of the great things about nursing is it is so varied. However after reading your last line about having a bad back and unable to stand for long periods at a time, if you work in a hospital understand that the norm is 12 hour shifts. If you are really serious about getting info contact a nursing adviser in your area or try and set up a shadow of a nurse in your area [edit] adding a few things to answer your post. one thing to consider for pay is differentials, you usually get paid more for working evenings and nights, this can be just a dollar an hour to 10 or more in some areas. And your pay in hospitals versus docs office are as varied as there are people on earth. Is there a cap? well I suppose in a sense there is a cap. Pay is usually limited by your degree(associates vs bsn vs msn vs crna vs np) and experience.
  13. Yea, I suppose the only cool thing about that is the colostomy is considered non sterile, so they usually let you in a bit closer and are a bit more chatty about whats going on. Also there are a ton of different kinds of hernias so thats pretty open as to what it could be. Have fun, and dont worry about anything.
  14. Nothing wrong with giving yourself a pat on the back, sometimes you are the only one who will do it. So go to town with congratulating yourself, I know I do when I deserve it.
  15. Sometimes they unscrew, and if you have narrow ears the smaller peices might get them farther in, and thus making it louder. Another thing, some people just have louder hearts.... lub dup am I right?
