I wanted so badly to become an RN, but i can not seem to pass college algebra. I had to start at the bottom, beginning algebra and i got out with a C. Then went on to intermediate & had to drop out because of grades. It also took me 2 semesters to get out of A&P with a passing grade. I made an A in Medical Term & Abnormal Psy, and a B in First Responder. Surgical Tech seems to be the new route I will have to take. I should also add that I am 48 and have been out of school for 30 years. Has anyone else had this kind of problem?

Hi sweetea,
I was never a big fan of numbers as well, especially numbers combined with letters.
After an almost 5 years hiatus from school, I recently decided to go back and I know I have to do something with math. I took tutoring sessions offered on campus in between classes, and asked for practice homeworks from my teacher so that I will not forget the lessons. It also helped me that I make it a point to tell my teacher my concerns with Math, and most of them took time to see me during their office hours and let me know how am I doing. And it didn't hurt to ask them for additional work for extra credit to get a better grade.

Did you work with a tutor? Sometimes that helps. Do you want to be a surgical tech? There are pros and cons to everything. On one hand as a surgical tech you won't have the broad scope of practice that a rn has, but on the bright side you will be very specialized in what you do so you won't have to deal with the broad scope that sometimes frustrates rn's. I know allied health techs who are very happy with their specialties and would not want to be nurses. So it just depends on what you are looking for.

Algebra was hard for me too. I had to eat, breath, and live it to keep up with class. I found a great teacher by asking fellow classmates who to take to survive a class. Also, look at ratemyprofessors.com to find a good math teacher in your school. The difference in a teachers style can make all the difference in the world. I got out with a B on my 1st attempt, but sweated it all the way through.
My A&P teacher is actually on the rate my professor site. I don't she rated well...lol. But thats really a great idea for the math. I have been thinking maybe i can sneek in a math class between my other four classes.
