Hello everyone,
I realize when I had to write my nursing exam how much pressure I experienced about the whole thing. I wrote mine in June 2010 and passed in first attempt but still remember when I walked out the exam, I was not sure what would be the result.
The purpose of this thread is supporting those nursing students who are planning to write their CRNE in upcoming June. Students, please feel free to share your concerns and questions. Nurses please support those students with tips for study.
Just couple of reminders before we get started:
1. Please do not discuss specific questions or any content tested in CRNE.
2. Please read other threads for more information as well. Other threads give you valuable information and be smart and take them into your advantage.
3. Please stay on topic.
4. Please use proper grammar and spelling.
Thank you all.
Has anyone heard from people who have gotten their results, what the passing mark is??
I think we won't know till someone fails by a few points. They usually don't say what it is out of unless you failed. At least that what I've been hearing in older threads from last year.
Also, I'm not sure whether it's the same throughout all provinces/territories considering we all wrote different tests (i.e., those who wrote the CRNE in Ontario, were not writing the exact same test as those in PEI). All we can do now is wait patiently. Congratulations to all who've passed. I hope I pass too. I'm gaining weight because all I do is eat and worry lol.
this wait is getting long..... what i about to write is simply an opinion, not saying i'm right, more an "supportive expression of concern" if you like....nurses should feel supported when raising concerns.
i never knew going into this exam what emotions would be like following it, i feel uncomfortable. i don't seem to understand the reason this is the process; pay a large fee for exam and wait so long for a result. with today’s technology, why do we have to wait so long for a result or 200 mc questions marked by a computer? we put pt data into computer, this exam is marked by a computer, so why not allow students to securely obtain their results of an exam online? would this not be more cost effective, enviromentally friendly and practical? is hard mail as safe these days as assesing a result with a secure password?
is passing this exam a reflection of a person fit for practice? is it unreasonable to think a better solution would be to guide universities and allow them to state a student is fit to practice as an rn? surely it could be at least considered that the competencies required to be a nurse could be assessed during one's university life with proper performance appraisals and correct clinical support. people may say the current system is there to "protect the public", but can we not do that without putting nursing students (most who are very young adults) through the current system? are we protecting nurses?
now i don't like to use the word fail (take a slow controlled breathe), but unfortunately it can happen. the worse parts are obviously the cost and time to go through the whole process again, but the feelings the student also be looked considered. do rn's today state that a pass in the exam is not a reflection of a good rn? again this brings me back to allowing the universities the power to certify people and test what needs to be tested... would people be more comfortable failing (sorry to use that word again) a university subject final for nursing and re-taking it at university than going through the current final step and having everything riding on a final exam which you can only attempt 3 times? if people don't make it at university level within the first year or two, then could it not be indentified if nursing is not the best path for them and they can get on with their life and can it can work to assist in areas of further development? are we going to loose (and have we lost) potentially good nurses to other professions?
so in conclusion this is not an attack on the current system, i'm not saying i'm right and this is how it has to be, i'm not an expert. i'm just doing what we should do as nurses; not be afraid to speak up and ask questions. i know at the end of the day this exam is how it is and there is no other way around being an rn (although other countries don't have one big final exam and do leave power to their universities), but let's at least take a good look at things and work together to try to improve.
to those who pass congratulations, to those who don't...you are not a failure, your life does not begin or end here and you should hold your chin up you made it this far....i wish the best for you in future
I have to agree 100% with your post 100CPZ. I know of someone who has just written for the 3rd time. She has been applauded many times for being an excellent caring knowledgeable nurse. She excelled in her clinicals. She feels that her future hinges on this result. What will she do if she fails again? Comments have already been made that she "obviously" is lacking somehow. She has always found multiple choice exams a huge challenge. There has been very little support/assistance/ guidance offered by the provincial college. It is so sad. We NEED nurses like her!!
Please pray that HER prayers will be answered.
In response to a question posed on the previous page....the Colleges determine fitness to practice. Obtaining a degree and obtaining a nursing license are not the same. The BSN prepares you for, and allows you the privilege of sitting the exam. The waiting will soon be over. Good luck to all of you.
in Ontario and still waiting, please if anyone receive their result from ontario especially from the GTA let us know it is exactly 5 weeks today, i am gaining weight as well eveyday from eating to supress my anxiety (great excuse heh? am just gaining weight period but now i have something to blame it on). congratulations to all those who passed. i am staying positive and waiting:)
Just weighing in here on some of the thoughts already shared. I took and passed the U.S. NCLEX in 1995 in California. At the time I took the examination, I scheduled my own time at a contracted computer learning center, went to a computer center and took the examination and had my results in less than 2 weeks. It seems a more cost efficient system than the current system in Canada. I have been evaluated by the committee and had to submit verifications from nursing employers, states of licensure and university. I also had to register in the state in which I attended University even though I never practiced there or took an exam there because of moving to California just after graduation. Fortunately, it only took an additional few weeks for that to happen as I was able to obtain licensure by endorsement. So, it's been more than a year since I started the process, and now I, along with all of you, await results that mean the difference between a paycheck and no paycheck and my work permit expires in AUGUST. So, maybe I work two or three weeks before it expires. Both I and my employer were told by the College that it would take only three months, but that is true only if you graduated within the last five years and never practiced nursing. So, with my 16 years of experience, it requires a year apparently. What organization evaluates the examination and admission to practice processes? This process seems outdated and costly for both the College and the prospective licensees. I dont mind that I had to take the examination since it is a requirement, but I do feel the examination should be more frequently given and the results provided more timely.
