I officially got offered the job as a ER nurse! I am so excited and ready to learn. What supplies do I need to carry with me on the floor? What books do you recommend for new ER nurses? This is my first hospital job, so I am not sure what to expect. Thank you in advance!

I too like the cargo style pants. I prefer to keep my stethoscope in one of those pockets and not around my neck.
Scissors. Everyone will love you for it. I'm amazed by how many don't carry them; I use mine a lot.
A Penlight. Its just easier to have your own.
I carry a small notebook that I have cheat references for me for charting on our EHR. I also can use that to jot down things I want to look up later. I carry a separate one that I just use to take report, write down anything when I'm not at a computer, etc.
Books: I carry tarascon's pocket Pharmacopoeia for Nurses and an ACLS and Critical care Pocket guide on me during my shifts. I also have but don't carry (use for reference, keep them in my locker and sometimes bring them home) Fast Facts for the ER nurse and Sheehy's manual of Emergency Care.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
