Great questions NickelHERSH!So just to be clear, I'm only 10 weeks in, and although I don't expect things to change all that much, it isn't like I've been here for a while. How rigorous is the program?Rigorous.

How rigorous is the program?
Rigorous.
Hi, I don't know if you are still floating around in the allnurses sphere. If so, I'd really like to hear how the program is going for you now that it is coming to an end. Any thoughts on other schools you would have considered instead? Thanks!
Hi,
I was just wondering what, if any, hospital experience you had prior to entering Downstate. Also thanks for writing out so much about the program. I hope you are enjoying life now that the program is winding down a little.

Hi sohokat
I had a few questions I am starting in Summer 2017 and had a few questions regarding scheduling. Is there block scheduling and we all have the same schedule they give to us or do we get to pick slots and times for classes?
Also- was there any time in between the semesters or was summer A, summer B, and fall all consecutive after each other.

hello! i'm a current student in the program. everyone takes all the same classes together. the summer is 2 6-week sessions. the first block is Pathophysiology, Health Promotion and Health Assessment (classes meet 4 days a week). the second block is Teaching and Learning, Professional Development, OBGYN and Pharm, plus the OBGYN clinical (classes meet 3 days a week, and 1 full day of clinical). There's a (wonderful!) weekend in between the 2 summer sessions, but no break.
After the summer, there's a 1-2 week break. Then, the Fall semester is SIGNIFICANTLY less time consuming! We take 2 classes at a time and 1 clinical day.
Let me know if you have any more questions :)
Thanks so much for getting back. When you say block schedule that everyone takes the same classes there is only 1 time offered for each class and everyone is in it together or are there choices?
can you give me a sample of what your summer schedule looked like? Was there class on Friday,
overall how are you liking the program?
The program is very intense, the students are awesome, but the faculty and administration are completely disorganized. But I think it's still worth it! We're already halfway done and it's flying by.
I wrote out our summer schedule below. I'm not sure if it'll change, but it was the same for the previous class. And yes, the summer is completely insane, but once it's over, it's (relatively) smooth sailing!
Block 1
Mondays - Health Promotion 9-4
Tuesdays - Health Promotion 9-3
Wednesdays - Health Assessment 9-5:30
Fridays - Patho 9-5
Block 2
Mondays - Teaching and Learning 9-2, Prof. Development 3-8
Tuesdays - OBGYN lecture 10-3
Thursdays - OBGYN clinical 8-8
Fridays - Pharm 9-5

If you don't mind my asking, how much did the program end up costing you?
i don't know exactly, but it's approximately ~$16K for the program. plus a few required add-ons. hope that helps!
