SUNY Brockport Accelerated program Summer 2015

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi everyone,

I recently applied to SUNY Brockports Accelerated Program and was wondering if there is anyone out there that also applied for the Summer 2015 Cohort?

Also if there was anyone that is either currently in the program or graduated from it? I was hoping to get some feedback on it.

I decided Nursing is the path I was going to take a couple years ago & have been researching the field / schools to nauseum. For the last year I focused on completing my pre-reqs and FINALLY am done w/ them and am in the position to apply :) Through my research I was able to find a ton of info on the University of Rochester's program but not so much on Brockports. I just wanted to start a forum to try to get some more info & see if others are applying.

I also applied to U of R's program, and was accepted!!! I wont hear back from Brockport till Dec on my acceptance, if they accept me then I will have to decide between the 2 schools. Brockport is of course a fraction of the cost of UR... but I am not sure if I will even get accepted since Brockport seems to be very picky on who they let in...

Any info would be appreciated

Did anyone hear back from Brockport?

I havent heard anything yet. I check the web banner daily, typically my profile says Application Status: Nursing Intent but today it said: Decision Made. I called Admissions and asked if I was able to find out via phone and they said I have to wait till they mail out the letters. The website says they mail them out after 12/1.

Hi everyone! I was accepted to Brockport's accelerated nursing last week! I actually received an email saying I was accepted and to wait 1-2 weeks to receive the official acceptance in the mail. I've emailed with the program head constantly during the application process so maybe she emailed me because I continuously emailed her? I know they aren't done yet so I'm sure you'll hear something soon! Good luck to you!

That's awesome! Congratulations!!! :D That makes me nervous because I didnt get a email. U of R made phone calls to accepted students but I didn't think Brockport contacted each student directly through phone or email, I thought it was only letters being mailed. Geez I PRAY they don't, I will be so upset if I didn't get in since I already declined U of R's offer. Stressfullll.

I hope I will be joining your cohort. Congrats again!!!

My undergrad right now is only a 3.3 and I had to retake two of the prereqs over to get A's so I think you are more qualified than I am honestly, plus I'm still completing my undergrad and you have your Master's Degree! You'll be fine!!!

Thank you for the encouraging words! I'm keeping my hopes up. I will definitely let you know if I get in. :)

Hey there! I got an email on the 12th for acceptance to this program! Congrats by the way uncw24 ! Glad to know I'm not the only one as when I got the email, I quickly signed up on this forum hoping to find others who got the email as well. Now I'm just curious as to how the program is since I read it's fairly new. It's also interesting you mentioned the whole communication thing. I emailed the Director maybe twice with questions(she seemed very nice), but I also felt like that may have helped my acceptance. Good luck to you jseg04! Hopefully, you'll receive an email this week!

Hey Everyone!! So, after many long awaited years of pre-req takings and re-takings, I've finally been accepted into a program of choice!

For those that may need encouragement - I applied to Brockport last year as a readmit. I was vehementaly denied by the program director with whom I even spoke on the phone with. I have years of healthcare experience, and even work at one of the worlds most reknowned cancer centers in America, MSKCC. I was told that my GPA was not competitive and that nothing else mattered in the applicaiton process. In fact, most of the accepted students had straight A's for their pre-reqs. Needless to say I felt hopeless and like I have completely wasted 3 years of my time, money, and college credits toward something that is impossible. I have mostly B's and a few A's in my pre-reqs. I took several classes I dont actually need i.e. Cell biology, Physics to boost my average and hopefully make me look competitive. I suppose this helped me, including the essay for this year cohort. My Brokpcort GPA is not astounding, which I was told was also a negative - 3.1. However, this year, to my astonhishment I have been accepted.

Message to those out there who are in the low GPA ranks because of a lack of motivation and direction when you were 17 and 18 years old starting out college. There is certainly hope, if this year doesn't work out, there is CERTAINLY always next year, and do not be afraid to expand your options. It has helped me and I am happy to say it finally worked out for me.

Aside from my rant, I'm happy to see finally that there other people who had applied to Brockport on Allnurses. I was beginning to think I was the only one. Any other Brockport re-admits here?

Hey everyone. Clearly there is a sporifice network of people who have also been accepted to Brockport, or for that matter are using this website for alternate information. If anyone knows if there is a facebook page for our class or maybe I can start a facebook page? I think this would easier to communicate. If anyone gets this and agrees or knows of a page already made. Please let me know!

I don't know of a page, but I agree to starting one!

Great!

Anybody that you know or is interested in joining the page, here it is.

I'm currently on the final leg of the program for the class of 2015 and it's looking like it's going to be a sprint to the finish. The program is a little challenging (what nursing program isn't?), but definitely manageable. Thus far, it seems like they try to schedule classes focused on students who are also working, have families, etc.. by making classes 3-4 hours long, but once a week. There are plenty of students in my class who have kids or part-time jobs, and are doing exceptionally well grade-wise. Speaking of grades, just remember that "B's and C's get degrees". I'm starting to realize that the closer I get to graduation and the NCLEX. As far as NCLEX scores are concerned, you're in good hands at Brockport. The faculty want you to succeed, especially when it comes to the NCLEX, and the college's NCLEX scores reflect that.
