SUNY Binghamton

I'm looking at SUNY Binghamton one year accelerated program (one year) for RN.

Looking for some testimonials about the program and how it prepared you for your boards and how prospective employers embrace BU grads.

Evaluation of professors and the overall program quality would be helpful

Thanks

I am already in a nursing school already but had some personal problem with my clinical instructor so just thought of transfering somewhere else because i cant stand the mess for the next yr. Trying to apply to few SUNY colleges and or private schools. I am so interested in BU. how about CNR program? I will be getting my A.S in individual studies next semester, so am looking into fall 09 admission. do you have any school in mind or heard about BU program in detail? Thanks in advance.......

Yes!!!

I've been lurking for just over a year now, and this site is just great. As I've only very recently cemented my decision to go to nursing school, I thought I'd complement that decision by joining the community here.

My nerves have been a little distraught about the decision, though, as I've been hearing really woeful tales of nurses in NYC (and elsewhere) being unable to land jobs. I'm from the area, but it seems I won't be finding a job there... NYC is overrated anyway . Since graduation, I've been living in Buffalo, NY, which had been, until recently, a steady employer of nurses. Today, however, I heard that it won't last here, either... Yikes.

Regardless, this is what I want to do; I will be applying to the Decker School of Nursing later this year (for '10 - '11). My first degree is in psychology, also from Binghamton University.

The website specifies a GPA over 3.0, and the prereqs, but does anyone who's been accepted to the program have anything more specific regarding what they're looking for?

Much thanks!

did u hear back?

I graduated from the BAT program a few years ago. I stayed in the area for a couple years after graduation and didn't have any trouble getting a job, and once you have some experience future employers don't care where you got your nursing degree from. The program was pretty well-organized and the faculty was easy to deal with, though I thought that some of my clinical groups had too many students in them and that maybe the school admits too many people for the amount of clinical opportunities in the area (Broome Community College also has an RN program). The accelerated program was a lot of work but not too overwhelming. The NCLEX pass rate is really high. Housing in the area is really cheap if that's a consideration. Let me know if you guys have any other questions! It's not a perfect program but it's a great value, and Binghamton University is well-respected in the Northeast.

Hi Barkow,

I just looked at their website but they mentioned that it's advisable to apply in the Fall a year before you want to be admitted. Did they require that you had every pre requisite done when you applied or were you allowed to finish classes in the Spring semester before the Summer start date?

The program looks great according the website.

Doni,

I knew people in my A&P class in the spring that were going to start the program that summer so I'm pretty sure you have until you start the program to complete your pre-reqs...but if I remember correctly you can only have 2 uncompleted. You can always just call the nursing department, they are very friendly there and helpful.
