Good morning!
Joe, I hope J feels better soon. Good luck in finding a financial advisor.
Ado, I can't tolerate zoos because I hate seeing animals in captivity unless they are rescued or injured. Dealing with someone with dementia that goes into their broken record "I'm leaving" or "I'm going to my room" when they are in a hospital room is maddening.
Ado, congrats on your team.
I'm going to have to go with Duke in the NCAA. Where I grew up in North Carolina college basketball is huge...Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, NC State, all within a few miles of each other have all won national championships. I worked at Duke University Medical Center the year they won back to back championships and it was crazy. That was 30 years ago and they have the same coach. Apparently it's his last year and he's 75. Would be a nice send off. It would also be interesting if North Carolina gets a spot in the Final Four as well. Duke and UNC hate each other. I went to UNC for one year and I worked at Duke, so I like them both. ?
My financial advisor is someone I used to go to church with and is part of group of advisors working for Raymond James. He and his two partners are are gay and lesbian, not that was a factor but it's a nice touch. I never would have had one if my hospital didn't change retirement funds and instead of rolling over to their funds, I went with my own. I've found it invaluable to have those meetings once a year. During the pandemic when his office was closed he called me and checked on me. During downturns in the economy he calls and feels me out as to how I'm feeling about staying the course or being more conservative.
I couldn't sleep this morning starting around 4AM and got up at 5AM and surrendered and had coffee. I'm going to a play at 2pm so I hope to sleep some more here in a bit.
Hello all! Slept well last night, -- really deeply, for which I am thankful.
Zoos: Have been to the San Diego Zoo once, it's just TOO BIG!! We enjoy going to the Big Bear Alpine Zoo. It's very small, and all their animals are unable to be released into the wild. They rescued them and rehabbed them to the best they could, and the animals are now at the zoo: eagle with one wing, two siberian tigers (siblings) with one eye from a congenital condition, a blonde raccoon that was not thriving in the wild, being shunned because of its color.. The zoo staff accepts injured animals and attempts to release all they can.
Today? Not much on the schedule. I don't have to do a special laundry for scrubs. Will have to work up a schedule for me, with daily goals, so I won't fade into couch potato land...
Have a good day!
Gloriosky, Heavens to Mergatroid, and Gahhhhhhhh~
I am EXHAUSTED! But boy-oh-boy did I get a LOT done today! Shredded for over an hour; had to empty envelopes to put them in recycling, then anything with my name and address on it, including mailing labels on magazine subscriptions and order forms from catalogs were shredded. Crammed the shreds into two 30 gal. trash bags. I had saved a LOT of catalogs (...as if I can afford to buy anything from them) but now they are GONE! Phew!
Hung up two laundry loads of my clothes which have been sitting folded and piled up on a chair. Once again, you can actually SEE the floor of my room. Of course it still has to be vacuumed and spot cleaned. I also need to dust and clean mirrors, and pick through other things on the shelving ... toss or store. Since we still have not been able to get into the shed full of our stuff, I have not hung my favorite framed pictures on the wall spaces I've saved for them (for 5 YEARS!), so I am going to hang some of the small ones that have been sitting in a box in the front bedroom, just to make the room more MINE.
My next cleaning project is the front bedroom which used to be the in-laws main bedroom. It is loaded up with junk and stuff and baskets and Christmas stuff and things from the way-back-then-move in here. It would be good to have a 'guest-room' just in case. And I told Nannie I will go through her hanging clothes (many of which will not fit her anymore) and put them up in the front room closet. Don't tell her, but some of it is going to the place where they donate the money they make selling clothes and stuff, to a woman's shelter for women and kids that suffered domestic violence.
Guess we are watching the Oscars tonight, even though, as I said, we haven't seen any of the movies nominated. Nannie will love being shocked and amazed by gown designs and hair-dos.
When I was 'The Animal Lady' at the museum in Nashville, we had mostly unable-to-be-released critters, due to injuries But I made sure that they didn't have "Cage Fever"; I hated to see animals pacing back and forth, back and forth, so they had regular outings (some actually outside, some just running around loose in the Animal Room). They were mostly a bit socialized, since we used them in the public animal shows, for teaching about the local wildlife.
When I went to the zoo when I was 6 years old, I was quite upset that I wasn't allowed to pat and scratch the lions. Later, at the circus I went to when I was in my early 20's....it was extremely distressing to seeing 12 white tigers sitting up on command and drinking something from large milk-bottles they were holding in their paws. And a bear riding a 'motorcycle' on the high-wire. I felt so sad for them. It was JUST AWFUL!
I'm going to have to look up "feduciary". I have saved some articles about being executor for a will....because hubby is POA for Nannie and IMHO he is not close to knowing what-all is required. Thank goodness he has friends in Nannie's church who can guide and help him with all of it. It doesn't seem to be an imminent thing, but ya never know.
OKAY! Tine to ogle the rich and famous on the red carpet.
I had to look up fiduciary as well, but it still didn't make much sense.
I've actually seen eight of the 10 films nominated for best picture. I haven't seen CODA because I don''t subscribe to Apple TV. I haven't seen "Nightmare Alley" because I don't have HBOPlus, but it's now on Amazon, so I'll see that. I also want to see "The Eyes Of Tammy Faye" because the actress is a front runner to win best actress.
I don't have cable to watch it live but will keep up with it online until I go to bed for the night. I see in the pre-telecast awards Dune already got four oscars.
The play was really good. It was about Billie Holiday and her last concert and there were about eight numbers but the monologues about her life and the racism the experienced was stunning.
I meant to say above Amo, congrats on your team winning and not Ado. ?
Dianah, I've had to watch that during this staycation and not waste time. But the good thing about being retired is there can be no agenda, so if your a slug one day it doesn't matter. But being a slug is not a good habit.

Tweety sometimes those slow days are good days
Dianah I think transitions can be anxiety producing
Hi Steph! Can't believe Spidey is old enough to be getting married
NJ22 glad you slept better and that your pain has improved
Stars loss of a pet does hit periodically, though I find it gradually fades
Ado I find a regular schedule helpful too
Went bird watching yesterday, was pretty cold. Came home and started making the schnapps. Went to lunch with dad, he and my aunt have been talking about having a mini-reunion this year. I did some research later and found some of our usual places have rooms available, so we're emailing the rest of the family to see if anyone else is interested. The Svengoolie movie was OK though kind of slow
Talked with dad about financial advisors, he has one but located far from me. So I may see if J's financial advisor is closer. Dad advised getting an adviser that is also a fiduciary
Today have church, I'll be reading today and the choir will be singing. J and I probably won't get together today, the last two days he's had fatigue and upset stomach so he probably needs today to recover. Will make lentil soup and do laundry. And finally update my resume, something I've been putting off for weeks
Will be in the 30s again today, at least no snow and rain
