Hey guys! I know that we're still a few months from the application opening, but I'm so excited I can't wait!

I'd love to hear from any of the previous years' externs and anyone planning on applying this summer.

Does anyone have more information about the waiting list and what it means to be on it? Such as what is the likelihood of us getting in?

I have a question. I was also selected as a alternate. What does that even mean? Will I even have a chance to get in? How do they select who gets in?

From what I've gotten by stalking past year's forums, they take have a certain amount of alternates (I won't guess the number because it'll probably be wrong, I've heard like 20?) and should a person decline their offer, someone off the alternate list is offered it. We are required to turn in our forms stating whether we accept or decline by Feb. 24th. I've heard that in past years they end up getting to take about 5 alternates, but that could also just be a rumor haha. Apparently if you ask Mayo they'll tell you there is no ranking of alternates, so I'm not sure how they choose who is selected from the list.
