Summer Entry 2013 Accelerated BSN/MSN Johns Hopkins

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone,

How many of you have applied for the 2013 Accelerated BSN/MSN program at JHU SON? I applied early decision and completed my phone interview on the 26th. They said they will start making decisions calls around the December 15th which is a Saturday so I'm sure we won't hear anything until the 17th or later.

Is anyone else as anxious as I am to hear back from them? I even made a vision board on my fridge that reads: I WILL GET ACCEPTED INTO THE JOHNS HOPKINS BSN/MSN PROGRAM STARTING SUMMER 2013. Positive thoughts work, right? :saint:

FYI: I also applied to Columbia, Ohio State, and UCLA.

Ahh, I see. Well, Hopkins may be the better choice then! Have you visited Hopkins in person yet?

I'm deciding Penn vs JHU. JHU appears to be significantly cheaper. I'm torn between schools.

How will you decide?

I haven't officially been to Hopkins but was in Baltimore this past September. Baltimore is scary to me that's honestly my only hestiation. My final decision will most likely come down to cost between the two. Are you def. going to Hopkins?

I'm waiting to hear back from Duke and NYU, and I'm on the Penn waitlist. I really loved Duke though, and I love Hopkins, so I'm hoping that my decision will come between Hopkins and Duke. I have never been to Baltimore, but I have some of the same fears you do... plus it is really expensive. I think that the accepted students day will help calm some of my fears, along with touring apartments in the area.

Hi everyone -- I'm very proud to have been accepted for the Summer 2013 cohort. A big congratulations to everyone who was also accepted!

I decided to attend Penn, my first choice for a number of reasons, several of which don't really have much to do with the programs themselves. One thing to note is that Hopkins' program is 13 months, while Penn's is 18 months; this might account for some of the discrepancies in tuition price. (ETA: Hopkins fall entry is 17 mos. at the same $ as the 13 mo. program... hmmm.)

I grew up outside of Baltimore & lived there too, and to be honest, I don't believe that it is significantly less safe than Philadelphia. I really love the city, its people and the surrounding environment (state parks/shores/beaches/etc.). I do really recommend having/getting a car, which'll expand the residential territory available to you, among other things. Is rent really expensive nowadays? I thought only a few neighborhoods had shot up in price.

Ultimately -- we'll all be working together as RNs & NPs after whatever school we go to ends.

Hi mcav, did you end up hearing anything on Friday? It seems like a lot of people have been notified already. I hope the reason we haven't heard back is because midwifery is joint with Shenandoah, thus taking a longer time to process. I'm probably going to call in on Monday to check.

I haven't heard back yet :-/. Let me know what they say on Monday!

I'm applying to acute care and haven't heard either. Last week, I was told by various people in admissions that I'd hear this (last) week, next week, or "by the end of the month." I am having such a hard time waiting!

Hi mcav, I called one of the admissions coordinators (not my interviewer) and she says some notifications for midwifery applicants have already been sent, but not all. And apparently we should expect to hear back by snail mail. I didn't ask about phone calls, but when asking if I should hear via snail mail or email, she said snail mail. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I forgot to ask when's the latest I should hear back, but I think she would have said the same thing, "by the end of March."

Kdiem, I saw this and immediately checked the mail. Nothing. Ugh, but ok. Thanks for letting me know what they said!

Are they not calling today??
