I need work/volunteer experience to get into the BSN program at UT, but I'm not sure where to look. Obviously, I am looking to volunteer at a hospital but they make you spend the first 4 months working general areas such as the front desk. Im afraid I won't get the experience I need in time. Where else can I look?

If you're still interested I may have some advice. I am an honors student an part of the requirement to graduate with honors is to do some volunteer work. My mentor brought up an option that I'm not sure if I could handle, but I thought I'd pass it along to you. According to Medicare rules, Hospice facilities (end of live, mostly in home care) MUST have a team of people in order to be reimbursed by Medicare. My mentor has works as a hospice nurse in the past and that's how she knows this info. Part of that team includes doctors, nurses, clergy, etc. But where you might fit it is that they REQUIRE one volunteer on each team. You might want to check into that. Look online in your area for hospice facilities and give them a call. I'm sure most places are in dire need of this volunteer, as this is how they get paid. I don't know if it's for you, but you may want to give it a try. I've found in my 6 years as an LVN you'd be surprised at where having a nursing degree can take you and you never know where God might want you to be! I hope this helps! I pray you achieve every single dream you set out to! -Paula
