I am a tech that works in the ER on prn. I can tell ya just jump right in. Eventually you will figure out what needs to be done before you are even asked. Just be on your toes and willing to do and learn anything anyone wants to teach ya. I know in our ER the things that seem to help the most is doing ekgs, VS, transferring patients to the floors and making sure everything is stocked, as techs we put in foleys, straight cath for urine samples, D/C IVs when pts are D/c'd, draw blood, spike bags of saline for IVs for the nurses. We stock our linens and other supplies a few times a shift. Also we make sure our sharps containers are not full and that there are enough gloves in all of our rooms. Most of all enjoy your job. The ER is my passion and I hope to be working there as an RN within the next year. I graduate in 9 weeks. Good luck with your new job.

My advise is the same as vlrsgrl. You might feel a little intimidated once you get there, but keep at it, and you might get the E.R. itch like most of us aqquired, lol.....YOU will learn so much there, even as a tech, you are much needed. Good luck
