it's been 4 months, and im still a bum. i've tried submitting my resume to various hospitals but sadly, i still haven't heard from any of them. being hired by a hospital is, if i may say, close to impossible these days. it has already gotten to the depressing point of doing a daily routine of waking up at noontime, watching the same tv shows, and eventually sleeping to wake up to a new day only to do the same stuff... because of this, i've come up with a few solutions for the "very-difficult-to-be-hired" situation that all of us Filipino nurses have at the moment...
1. it is a known fact that nursing has become a business these days. nursing schools appear like mushrooms and hospitals offer training at a "not so friendly" amount without the assurance of being hired afterwards. the solution to this is a stricter regulatory committee with regards to nursing schools. nursing schools should meet specific standards like "3 consecutive board passing rate less than 70% = closure of school". haha. (too brutal?) this will not only decrease the number of new nurses but also elevate the quality of nursing schools in the country.
2. students nowadays, particularly those in their senior year in highschool, should be informed of the true situation. rather than blinding them into taking up nursing because of the opportunities abroad, why not tell them about the very huge number of unemployed nurses at the moment? tell them about other career paths that may lead them into working abroad like the demand for architects and engineers in canada or the middle east.
3. lastly, doctors should not take up nursing anymore. because honestly, compared to us, they are the ones that employers would "take a look" at. so much for equal opportunity. haha.
(these are only opinions of a desperate bored bum. no need to get ticked by it. don't get me wrong. i love my chosen career. it's just that it's really hard to get a job these days. lol.)

Take the time and look at what you are submitting and why you are not getting any responses. Many times it has to do with what you are submitting or how you are submitting it. You have to market yourself and make yourself the commodity that is being sold.
Why should an employer wish to hire you over someone else? What can you offer them that would make them want to have you on staff? These are things that need to be done no matter where you are, even with getting a job in another country.
What makes you stand out from the others?
Have a good look at the thread that gives ideas on how to create your own job. That should give you some suggestions as well. And the fact that you can go to some outlying provinces and get hired. Yes, there is a tremendous glut of nurses in Manila, and some of the larger islands/provinces, but there are areas that still have a shortage and where one can get hired. But you most definitely are going to have to move in many cases.
Best of luck to you.
