suggested solutions to being unemployed
it's been 4 months, and im still a bum. i've tried submitting my resume to various hospitals but sadly, i still haven't heard from any of them. being hired by a hospital is, if i may say, close to impossible these days. it has already gotten to the depressing point of doing a daily routine of waking up at noontime, watching the same tv shows, and eventually sleeping to wake up to a new day only to do the same stuff... because of this, i've come up with a few solutions for the "very-difficult-to-be-hired" situation that all of us Filipino nurses have at the moment... 1. it is a known fact that nursing has become a business these days. nursing schools appear like mushrooms and hospitals offer training at a "not so friendly" amount without the assurance of being hired afterwards. the solution to this is a stricter regulatory committee with regards to nursing schools. nursing schools should meet specific standards like "3 consecutive board passing rate less than 70% = closure of school". haha. (too brutal?) this will not only decrease the number of new nurses but also elevate the quality of nursing schools in the country. 2. students nowadays, particularly those in their senior year in highschool, should be informed of the true situation. rather than blinding them into taking up nursing because of the opportunities abroad, why not tell them about the very huge number of unemployed nurses at the moment? tell them about other career paths that may lead them into working abroad like the demand for architects and engineers in canada or the middle east. 3. lastly, doctors should not take up nursing anymore. because honestly, compared to us, they are the ones that employers would "take a look" at. so much for equal opportunity. haha. (these are only opinions of a desperate bored bum. no need to get ticked by it. don't get me wrong. i love my chosen career. it's just that it's really hard to get a job these days. lol.)

still no calls...
"hi! why don't you try going to st. luke's to follow up on your application. the same thing happened to me. i decided to personally go to st lukes to follow up on my application when i didn't receive any feedback from them after a month of submitting my resume. i went there in the morning then they asked for my name and the date i submitted my resume. after waiting for almost 2 hours, the found my resume. i even took the IQ test alone on the same day. the HR staff informed me that i passed and that i should expect a call for the initial interview. unfortunately, it has been a little over a week since i passed the IQ test and i still haven't heard from them. sorry but i think that the HR staff of st luke's should try to make the hiring process more systematic. i understand that there are a lot of applicants but if things were more systemtic, then evrything would work out more smoothly." is hiring for the fort site still open? i hope i did not get your reply too late. i'll follow up with them within this week after i've finished scouting other potential hospitals. a friend and i went to cardinal santos a while ago. sad to say, we wasted time and effort after being told that there is no chance of getting hired if you don't have an iv therapy license. are you a 2008 passer like me? i totally agree with your view of how hr departments suck these days. the processing of applications take too much time and the sad part is, you won't even have an idea if your application has even made progress. maybe it's just due to the huge number of applicants or there really is something sucky with their system. i hope it's the former rather than the latter though. thank you very much. u've been helpful.:wink2:

St. Luke's, Medical City... Call me... Please... (passed resume and other credentials to the above hospitals. still no calls after a month. *sigh* hehe!)

new filipino nurse doesn't know where to start.
thank you! if ever, a hospital requires a board rating, wud it already be impossible for you to get hired if you fell short of that requirement?

a new nurse needs help.
hello! i just took and passed the Philippine licensure exams last June. being a new nurse, i have no idea where to begin with regards to starting my career. where can i train? which hospitals are hiring at the moment? can anyone tell me what documents i need to prepare for application? is there really a "freeze hiring" of nurses at this time? and i heard that st. lukes requires their applicants to at least have a board rating of 80%, will it be impossible for me to get hired if i fell short of that? i apologize if i have too many questions. i really just have no idea where to begin.
