Successful CRNA students consider listing your school, GPA, experience, GRE et.

In this way a database could eventually be created of the average profile of successful/unsuccessful applicants at various schools. Obviously, this would only be a guideline since the profile of a successful applicant changes to some degree even from class to class. It might also be useful to list schools that did not accept you or ones that you elected not to attend. This could amount to a powerful tool enabling future applicants to direct their efforts to schools where they are the most likely to succeed (an especially important point with CRNA schools since travel expenses are often involved in the application process).

I hope this takes off!

I know this subject has been touched on before, but I agree, a primary post to do some research is a good idea. Here are mine:

School: UNC - Charlotte

Applied: 2 schools UNC and Duke (interview at Duke, decided on UNC d/t lack of residents and opportunity to do baby hearts)

GRE: 1200 (need at least an 1100 to apply)

GPA (nursing only): 3.something (I honestly can't remember)

Interview: takes place at the school, you meet with a board of 8 clinician's (6 CRNA's, 1 MDA and 1 current student), sometimes they ask you clinical questions based on your area of expertise and sometimes they don't. Not a bad experience (for me).

Experience: 3 years heart/lung transplant CTICU in Tampa, 2 years SICU in Jacksonville

UNCC accepts 2 classes every year, 12 students in each class. This is only my (and several other students) opinion, but starting in the fall usually makes for a happier SRNA. If you would like specific's feel free to PM me.

Roland,

This has all been touched on before in one form or another, but I like the way you have asked these questions and I will answer it now... Mainly to show other "borderline" applicants that it can be done, even without a 4.0 undergraduate GPA...

- School: UAB (only one applied to)

- Current Year: 2nd year junior (in clinicals now)

- Overall SRNA GPA: 4.0

- Undergraduate Nursing/Science GPA: 3.41 (had to retake 2-3 science courses to bring it up from 3.1 or 3.14 - something like that)

- Experience: 9 years acute cardiac care

- GRE: 954

I hesitated to answer this post, but I realize that there are others out there that don't have the best grades, but do have the desire; so maybe this will be a little Hope for them.

I appreciate the information that has been posted and would hope more successful crna students post. I am just starting to get my BSN from the UOP and thinking of joining the army afterward to go to CRNA school.

Walter

Good luck to those applying

School: East Carolina University

Applied to: ECU, ODU, Raliegh School of Anesthesia (heard from ECU before interview with other two)

Undergrad Nursing GPA: 3.2 (had to retake 1 chemistry)

MAT:47

GRE:1090

Experience: 3.5yrs. ED, 2yrs CICU at Level I

CRNA GPA:3.63

Specializes in SICU, Anesthesia.

ADN Program 3.25 GPA

BSN Program 4.0 GPA

Samford University SRNA GPA 3.92

GRE 700 Quantitative, 600 Verbal and 5/6 on Analytical

1 year Trauma/SICU Level One Trauma Center

Applied to UAB, Medical College of Georgia, Gooding Institute, MTSA and Samford. Accepted at MTSA and Samford. Alternate at Gooding and MCG. Interview at UAB but shot down. I am just starting clinicals and love it. It is well worth all of the hard work. Good luck to those applying. My stats are not typical for my class. Some with better grades, some worse. Some better GRE's some lower. I along with others in my class only have 1 year of experience, however we have some who have been nurses for almost ten years. No one is a perfect applicant. If you have any doubts about your chances, my advice is to apply anyway. Once you get the interview it is how well you do in the interview that will get you a slot.

The difference is that I would like this thread to eventually become a database. Once/if we get enough responses to be helpful (maybe a hundred or more) I would like to put it into a searchable format and place a permanent link on this site (within this or another thread) so that everyone has access to this information. Of course this is easier said than done since the only database that I have even a little experience working with is Microsoft Access, and I'm not sure if that can be placed in an online environment. However, I have a buddy that does PR webstuff, and am hoping that he can be persuaded for a case of beer and a few Ribeyes to do the hard stuff for me.

B.S. Biology GPA 2.85

BSN GPA 3.9

GRE 1510 I think?? This was the old test and I don't remember the breakdown but I know I did really well on verbal and sucked at math

8 months nursing experience in a MICU at time of acceptance

Starting at Mt Marty this fall, also think this is a good idea additionally b/c so many people ask this question in one form or other. That being said here is the dirt on me.

Cumulative GPA: 3.35

Science GPA: 3.19 (retook a class to bring it up quickly)

GRE: Quant-620 Verbal-480 Analytical writing (new format since '02?) 5.5 out of six

Schools applied to 4

Kansas not even an interview

Truman (Kansas City, MO) accepted

Mt Marty (Sioux Falls, SD) accepted and will be attending

Undergrad GPA: 3.4

GREs: 1410, 5.5 writing

CCRN, ACLS, PALS

- Was taking a graduate pathophys course while interviewing - I got an A but obviously the schools didn't know that when they accepted me

- 1.5 years MICU/CICU at time of application, will have 2 years and 3 months at entrance (I'm doing camp nursing this summer, it's a blast!)

Gonzaga: interviewed, denied

Midwestern: no interview

U of New England: accepted

Samuel Merritt: accepted, attending

Hope this helps:

BSN GPA: 4.0

Science GPA: 3.5

Cumm GPA: 3.7

GRE: 1230, 5/6

Exp: 2 years (be the time the program starts) in a large MSICU at a Level One teaching hospital

Certs: CCRN, ACLS, PALS

I applied to University of Cincinnati and MTSA. I was accepted at UC before my interview with MTSA so I cancelled that one and will be attending UC this fall.
