Hi Fellow Nurses,
I am one of the nursing grads out there pounding the pavement in search of a job. Willing to work nights, weekends, any where; but, no one seems to want a new grad. I keep getting emails saying "thank you for your interest in our organization; but, at this time we are only interviewing candidates with strong clinical backgrounds..." I am tired of looking for work. I am tired of the rejection. I am tired of my family thinking that there must be something wrong with me if no one even wants to interview me. I can't believe I was on cloud nine when I got in nursing school, ecstatic when I graduated, on top of the moon when I passed my NCLEX - only to graduate with an unemployable degree! Every month I remain unemployed my skills wean and I am afraid that if I spend too long out of work I will have to relearn everything. Well, I am probably over reacting; but, thanks for listening.
Hi B. RN,
You were totally right! I dressed up, prepared copies of my resume and certifications and went to the interview after getting the rejection letter. Not only did they interview me; but, I received a job offer from them a week after the interview! So glad I went! Of course I accepted that job offer with glee and I have now gone from a sad loser nurse to an excited employed nurse in just a matter of days. I guess whenever you get really down you just have to wait it out and things will get better.
I can't believe that the job applying and interview process got me so down. It has been so long since I have gone through looking for work. Hopefully this post will help other because I got some really good advice here.
I am so happy for you Krispy Kritter!!!! I am in the same position you were in. I graduated in December 2015 and still no job! Trying to stay upbeat and change something about my job search approach each week. Sacramento where I am is so saturated with New Grads but my husband has such a good job here and you can't beat the wages! Wish me luck!!!
I'm sorry I don't know what to tell you except you're not alone. I had a friend who graduated with his BSN who worked at Starbucks because he couldn't get even a CNA job after school. I don't understand it. I also don't understand why someone with my experience can't get interviews either (if it weren't for travel nursing right now, I'd be a bum on the street because I'm in the same boat) and I've even applied to new grad jobs!
Something will come along though, so just keep looking. I've even called managers and bothered them (since that's worked in every job I had before nursing and even a few since!), but no dice. Keep us posted and we'll throw you a virtual party when you get hired! xo

Thanks Mzrainydayz, I followed your advice and redid my resume, started volunteering at a local free clinic and registered for an RN to BSN program....then I got the call and got a job. Guess hospitals only like to hire totally busy people.
