Studying for RNC-Inpt OB

Just registered to take the computerized exam, and will be doing independent study with a practice exam.

I've seen recommendations for the following texts- Which helped you most if you've taken the test recently?

AWHONN's Core Curriculum for Maternal-Newborn Nsg-- Have looked at it, seems very dry, outline-style. My friend has the last version- is there much difference between that and the 2010 edition?

AWHONN's Perinatal Nursing (Simpson et al)-- Have seen great reviews, but published in 2007- will that matter much?

Manual of Obstetrics (Evans)- saw it as a recommendation, but is medically-focused, not nursing-focused.

I can speak only for the Core Curriculum. It's not something you'd want to sit down and read like a novel, but the info is good. I read it in small chunks and it worked really well for me. But, no, it's not something I pick up to read when I want a little fluff :).

I did independent study and used the study book that my friend received when she attended a two-day review course. I also used the Core Curriculum book, and I recommend http://www.pearlsreview.com. It's a great review for any certification exam you might be taking.

Actually the manual of obstetrics helped me out a lot...Just a few hints...Know the difference between amniotic embolism vs pulmonary embolism (that question still haunts me to this day!lol), h&h values of a neonate, side effects of an intrathecal narcotic 12 hours later, and I received alot of question about diabetic pregnant patients. I know there are several versions to the test though. Good luck:yeah:

Oh Im taking it soon.....and I am stressing out. Not sure if any of you could still answer this thread, but I have the Perinatal Nursing book as well as past tests that I bought from the proed source. Im curious about the number of questions on the test....as in the minimum and max. Thanks in advance!!
