studying help and pocket pc downloads?

Published

first off, any advice on studying, especially vocabulary (i just started and already have 70 that i need to know and spell correctly - including some long achronyms, yikes i probably can't even spell that lol). seems we will have to do at least one section a night and the next day we have quizes - i need to pass this class with at the very least an 80. but i don't want to just memorize the stuff, i want to know it. as i'm sure anyone probably wants to do

i have a pocket pc that just became my brain when it comes to getting organized and getting things actually done. i have a tendency to forget what i need to get done in my spare time and once school starts in a week i will have no days off until thanksgiving and i believe the class ends mid december - if i pass everythign i'll be a cna by christmas *crosses fingers*

needless to say the calender w/reminders is invaluable to me

are there any free flash card/quize programs for the pocket pc or study guides/homework help

also abriviations for medical terms

or school homework/class time organizers

prety much anything free that would be helpful for a cna course

i'm not going to nursing school until fall 2006 so i don't want to spend the money on things right away, but if there are any worthwhile cheapy ones to download that would help me now let me know

send the link if you have it or know what site it could be found on

i could always do a google search, but my break is over so i'll see what you suggest first.

also i thought about reading aloud each unit and recording it to study when i'm driving or something but i don't think i could stand my voice that much, plus the batery life is crap and i haven't gotten my extra large battery (it's been at least a month now, i'm dying to go to the post office on my day off - i have 3 packages floating around somewhere and they better be there)

thanks!

Specializes in Operating Room.

flashcards are good for memorizing vocabulary. if you don't find a good pocket pc program for this, make them out of index cards. i cut each index card in half to make a package of index cards last longer.

look at the definition side first, then spell out the vocabulary word. flip the flashcard over, and see if you spelled the word correctly, and gave the correct vocabulary word for the definition.

also, are you sure you will need to know all of the vocabulary words? i'm sure for general knowledge it will be helpful, but many instructors do not test over all of the vocabulary words.

good luck! :)

I have not found any functioning freebies that are worthwhile.

Since you have not started ns yet, I would consider investing in Taber's for your PDA. You will need a medical dictionary at some point. I purchased the download a year ago, use it almost daily. Saves tons of time and room in backpack. ALso has abbreviations and common acronyms.

I have several other hardcopy med dictionaries and have not yet had to go to one for reference since download.
