Study groups

Hello!

What is your feelings on study groups? During my whole 3 yrs in nursing school, I never studied with a group. In fact, a lot of us never did. So now a few of us get together on sundays to study for a few hours. My question is since we are all new to this, how big or small should our group be? Right now it's 6 of us. There are 2 of us in the group that are the strongest the rest are not as strong and really don't put forth much effort to prepare for study group.

What is your input on study groups? Are they worth it? Is it too late to be doing this? We are really doing this for our upcoming exit exam. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. I agree! I had suggested to one group member our group was too big and we should split it in half. For instance, tomorrow we are meeting at 2pm. Some are coming at 2pm some at 3pm and some at 4pm. We had decided 2 wks ago to start meeting at 12pm because we are running out of time we should study more than that each sunday.

Grrr! I'm thinking about leaving the group. The one group member that is strong is my buddy and we do study together on thursdays.

I love my study group. Our study group consists of five, two strong and three that are less strong than us. The difference in whether your study group is successful or not is the committment of the members that you have. Five is just the right size for us but we all come prepared and that makes a huge difference. Another good thing to have is someone who keeps time. By this I mean, when you get off topic (as you will) have them say "you got 30 secs to finish that conversation" and then get back to the studying. We also take breaks about every hour/hour and 1/2. We usually study on Sat and Sun prior to an exam and that usually lasts for about 6 hours depending on how good we do. Sometimes more depending on content to cover. We also bring something to snack on b/b your brain just needs the sugar for all the info. It is important to that everyone knows what they need to have studied, books to bring, lecture notes to have prior to the group meeting to study.

I can't imagine not having my study group. We have all become pretty good friends through school. Some of us started studying in A&P together and so far thank the Lord, we have gotten through the good and bad. After this last semester, we had a party at my house and it was so nice to relax with them. They are such a huge place for support, especially now with us being two months away from graduation. We decided we are going to have a green hat club and do something together once a year to keep our friendships going strong along with staying in touch....

That is cool you have a great group of people to study with. I wish we had done the same but we didn't. Our school is very....ummm different.
