Nursing Students Student Assist

I am a first quarter ADN student. Two other students and myself are starting a study group. I would greatly appreciate any advice about how to study as a group while in nursing school. So far we have been answering NCLEX and textbook questions but it feels like we are just scraping the surface. Thanks.

Keep your study group small.

Stay on task.

Go over your notes one lecture at a time and do NCLEX questions afterwards.

Be familiar with the material before going to study group, don't rely solely on study group to pass.

Usually I study hardcore alone and get the majority of the information down. Then right before the test, I attend a group study with other classmates to soak up any info that I may have missed or didn't think was as important.

This has been successful for me.

That is how I approach study group as well.

I think an important requirement for participation in a study group is to come prepared. The last time my group met two people came who hadn't even filled out the blueprint for the test-which was the next day! They had nothing to contribute and slowed us down with their requests that we repeat everything so that they could write it all down.

Study on your own first, when you think you know it -then- go to the group. Everything you thought you looked up, question everyone else about, and have them do the same for you. If someone doesn't get it, quickly teach it, or have them write it on their own piece of paper for personal review later.

Throw around as many test questions and answers as you can!

Whenever we have study groups, nothing is ever accomplished if people show up to learn all the concepts.
