Pre Nursing vs. Nursing GPA for CRNA. What matters?

Nursing Students SRNA

Does anyone knows how anesthesia schools evaluate GPAs? I took a little different way to become BSN. I started my education at the community college bc it was much cheaper to get all the prereqs for BSN program. I ended up with Associate in Arts (Culture, Science and Technology) degree. When I transferred to 4 year school, all the credits got transferred but my GPA started from the beginning (72 credits). When I graduated with my BSN I had GPA of 3.24. Basically this GPA represents all nursing classes. All my other classes (those classes that people take after they already have ADN to become BSN) including social science (religion, philosophy etc), A&P, chem 1 and 2, precalc 1 and 2, stats, psych etc. have GPA of 3.92. Well I only got B in English, all science classes are A's. My combined GPA is pretty good 3.54 but my nursing by itself does not look good at all. I guess my question is what are my chances. I know that the entire package matters but GPA wise. What are your thoughts? I am not proud to say that but I did not get very good grades in Nursing school bc I was lazy and thought that will be the end of my education, while preparing for Nursing school I did my best and my GPA is a proof of that. I would like to hear some words of encouragement or in a worst case scenario words of discouragement. Thanks

The overall GPA, science GPA, and often the GPA for the last 60hrs is looked at for admissions.

I'm in the same boat. I'm in my BSN right now and my GPA went down after my first year in nursing school. I'm planning to take upper level classes in pathophysiology and maybe a graduate course in pharmacology as well as repeat some classes like ochem/biochem and statistics.:nailbiting: So I'm hoping that will help me.

So I understand that various schools have certain prerequisite classes that must be taken (i.e. chemistry, anatomy, etc...), and I also understand that schools look at GPA from certain angles too. Does anyone know if most schools look at GPA through the prerequisite classes (anatomy, physiology, etc...)? Or is it usually the overall cumulative GPA, the last 60 hours, sciences and such are more looked upon?

Thanks!

It varies according to the school. If u are in a program aim for a's now. Once your bsn is finalized any extra classes you take will not change your bsn gpa.

also keep in mind they look at the overall package. You should get your CCRN and get good GRE scores. That will help. Also, I know people who have taken upper level patho, anatomy, or chem classes. Not all schools will care about that. It could help you prepare for the interview however. If you narrow down your schools, you can concentrate on what they look for specifically.
