Is being a CRNA as boring and repetitive as some say it is?

I've been interested in becoming a CRNA for a few years now. I really enjoy biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and working with some independence. However, at least half of the CRNA's I've talked with say that their job gets to be boring and repetitive quickly. I've had boring and repetitive jobs in the past and hated them after a while. The variety at work is one reason that I enjoy travel nursing and why I enjoyed working in a combined MICU/SICU/CTICU in the past.

So, is it really boring and repetitive working as a CRNA or have I just been talking with the wrong CRNA's. Are there plenty of options for variety in your daily routine out there or will I find myself thinking that I'm stuck in a boring and repetitive profession? Before I start a CRNA program and take out thousands of dollars in student loans I want to make sure I can find variety in the career.

The only way you will know if it is too boring and repetitive is to spend a few days shadowing CRNAs. Every job has a certain amount of repetitiveness. Also, try to shadow in a non ACT practice and an ACT practice. You might notice some very different perspectives.

I agree, you should shadow a few CRNAs and decide. I'm in anesthesia school now so it's never boring for me :). In my opinion it's a lot like ICU nursing, you may go a little while caring for the same type of patient with no excitement, then you get a train wreck.
