I need advice about a reference for my application.

Nursing Students SRNA

Both CRNA programs I'm applying to require one of your 3 references to be from your current nurse manager. The problem is I just started a new job in February and I feel a little weary about asking my manager for a reference for school so soon after being hired. She knows me well because l worked as an agency ICU float nurse for 6 months at this hospital last year. I worked on this unit alot and that's the reason I got this job without even interviewing. I'm just worried that she will think less of me when I'm just starting in this unit and now I'm going to be applying for grad school. Even if I'm accepted, the first year of both programs are online so you can still work full time. I wouldn't be leaving my position till July 2017 if I'm accepted...should I be feeling this nervous/scared to ask her or am I being overly paranoid? Thanks!

Hey that's a great program. One year online? How many total years is it?

It's a doctorate program 3 years total...first two semesters online

Thank you. I am divided between FNP CRNA. What school is it? Also I heard the job market is not as good as before. Any idea? To answer ur question if u have a good rapport with her I don't think she mind. I have asked profs and colleagues I knew a lot less and got good recommendations.

Nurse practitioner is a lot more saturated due to sheer numbers that graduate where as most crna programs only accept about 25 people per class, however some schools do accept many more students like wolford or mtsa.

Specializes in CRNA.

One that I can think of is Texas Christian University. You start in January and spend the Spring and Summer semester with online classes. You then start the Fall of the 1st year in Fort Worth. The Spring and Summer semesters of year two can be spent in Fort Worth or at one of four primary sites that do distance learning. Two sites in Tulsa, Oklahoma, one in Lafayette, Louisiana, and one in Tampa, Florida. Then you spend the last 16 months at your primary clinical site and rotate if needed.

LSU and Our Lady of the Lake

Historically, nursing has been seen by the public as the most honest, trustworthy profession: Uphold those standards, please.

I'm confused how this relates to my original post? I never said I wouldn't be honest; I just wanted to hear others opinions because I feel as though I may be worrying and overreacting over something silly.

You asked if you should tell your current boss... yes be honest.

I know a couple people who have used old managers as their reference since they can better account for their work ethic, attendance, etc. and they have still gotten in. The programs I am applying to I have asked and have been told it was fine to use my old manager as I have also recently changed positions. Maybe just send the programs you are interested in an email or call them and ask if your old management would be ok since you recently had a job change and they will be able to provide a more accurate reference? Doesn't hurt to ask. I asked 2 programs and they were very receptive to this.

That's a great idea. I am going to call and check. Thank you!
