How soon is too soon to take the GRE?

Nursing Students SRNA

I'm currently two years away from finishing my BSN. I would like to take the GRE right before I graduate. Are there any time constraints on CRNA admissions? I know this may be case-by case thing. But I was wondering if anybody has ever heard of any timing issues? I am not expecting to apply to CRNA school right away. I would like to start on Med-Surg first, and then work my way into ICU, and then I would like to be there for a couple years. Which is why I was wondering if I may be jumping the gun too quickly, but how long is a GRE score honored?

I think most schools require the GRE within the last 5 years, at least the ones I applied to. I think that's because the scores are only available for 5 years from the testing site. I waited until I was in ICU to take it.

5 years places that I've looked too. You don't want to have to take it twice, so you should consider holding off a bit. I took mine 1 year post graduation, but I started in ICU and am applying next year for 2011.

5 years is the limit for the GRE and why do you want to start in medsurge? why not start in Pacu instead or apply to a hospital that take new grad into an ICU like a hospital that offer critical care internship. I know alot of CRNAs who got in after only 1 year of nursing experience.

Thanks so much Cleo! That does make so much more sense! I don't know why, but I keep having this misconception that I'd be lucky if I get into Med-surg right away because of the lack of new grad positions available. But you're right... it's not unheard of to go into ICU or PACU right away. Thanks for giving me hope!
