Akron university?

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

I am choosing a program in Ohio and noticed the cost difference for Akron Univeristy only being 25k vs all the others being 60-77k. Anyone know why it's so much less? Or what I lose going to them? Any graduates of that university in here have any insight if it was looked down upon or it seem as any other program in the employers eyes?

I am currently a student in the Akron program. One of the central tenants of our program director is to keep costs down. He really works to make things as affordable as possible for the students. Everything we need, nothing we don't. I still worked full time while I was taking some of my core courses before starting the anesthesia portion of the program, and used my employers tuition reimbursement to pay for those core courses. When it's all said and done the program will probably end up costing me around 15 grand which is just insane. Its a great program, and the faculty truly care about the students success in every way. Its evidenced by the attrition and pass rates.

PVC, thanks for your insight, that's really helpful and good to know he looks out for the students. That is a killer deal on graduate school. Do you have any tips on how to be a strong applicant for this program? This program is one of my top picks I am eyeing. Thanks for any info

Read, read, read, and then read. Read every book you can get your hands on...LITERALLY. They don't care about fluff, they want to see you are motivated to be the best that YOU can be. They aren't going to take someone who isn't a master of the ICU they wrok in, to try to teach them to be a master at something much more difficult. If you work in a micu...better be able to talk about sepsis/vent settings/antibiotics backward and forward. If you work in a CVICU, you better be able to explain every hemodynamic value/every cardiac med/every sign of post surgical complication/etc.

If you haven't put the work in to be the best ICU RN you can be, what reason do they have to think you will put in the work to be the best CRNA you can be?

Thank you PVC. Appreciate the tips.
